Inleiding
KANTOORGEBOUW uit 1895 naar ontwerp van de Dordtse architect J.A. Reus (1872-1935). Het pand is gebouwd in de stijl van het Eclecticisme, met romaanse elementen. Opdrachtgever was notaris W.H. van Bilderbeek. In 1906 werd het notariskantoor aan de linkerzijde uitgebreid door de architect B. van Bilderbeek (1876-1955). In het gebouw bevindt zich een zogenaamd 'kunstzaaltje', een expositieruimte, op de verdieping. Het pand ligt in de historische binnenstad van Dordrecht en maakt deel uit van de monumentale gevelwand aan de Groenmarkt die binnen het beschermde stadsgezicht valt.
Omschrijving
Het kantoorgebouw is opgetrokken vanuit een rechthoekige plattegrond over twee verdiepingen. Het oudste deel heeft een tuitgevel met steekkap. Het linker deel uit 1906 heeft een zadeldak met aan de voorzijde een kleine dakkapel. De daken zijn bedekt met Hollandse pannen.
De voorgevel is geheel van zandsteen met een licht risalerende, hardstenen plint. De gevelopeningen hebben brede hardstenen onderdorpels, die in een waterlijst zijn opgenomen. De ramen zijn gevat in zandstenen, geprofileerde omlijstingen met diepe neggen.
Geheel rechts bevindt zich de entree, een paneeldeur met een rondboogbovenlicht met glas-in-lood in een geprofileerde deuromlijsting. Daarboven een negenruits raam met glas-in-lood. Op de begane grond twee identieke, samengestelde driedelige vensterpartijen met openslaande ramen en zijlichten. Bovenlichten met roedenverdeling en glas-in-lood. Op de verdieping rechts drie vensters met T-ramen onder rondboog bovenlicht met roedenverdeling en beschilderd glas-in-lood. Links in een spaarveld een erker met afgeschuinde zijden met zinken schilddakje. Boven de erker een ijzeren latei, langs de onderzijde van de erker een tandlijstje. De erker heeft vier smalle ramen met roedenverdeling. Langs de onderzijde van de kozijnen op de verdieping loopt over de gehele breedte van het pand een reliëfband van smalle paneelvlakken. De linker helft van het pand heeft een zandstenen gootlijst met ronde geprofileerde vergaarbakken. De zinken afvoerpijpen komen uit in een hardstenen poer in de plint. In de tuitgeveltop een drielicht met hoger middenraam, waarboven twee rondboograampjes met deelzuiltje. Op de hoeken ronde medaillons waarin 1895 staat. Rechts bij de voordeur is het pand door Reus gesigneerd.
Het interieur is vrij gaaf en heeft een aantal bijzondere elementen. In het tochtportaal een marmeren lambrisering en trappen van hardsteen. Marmeren schouw met ingegraveerd 'Lex est quademque notamus' en betegeld met plateel. Op de verdieping bevindt zich aan de voorzijde het kunstzaaltje met een verhoogd plafond dat beschilderd is. In de gebogen plafondvlakken langs de randen acanthusmotieven en een geschilderde lijst met bladmotieven. Langs de bovenkant een reliëflijst en een eierlijst. Ook hier een marmeren schouw. Het pand heeft een gordingenkap.

Description
The office building is erected on a rectangular ground plan over two storeys. The oldest part has a spout gable with a roof extension. The left part from 1906 has a gabled roof with a small dormer window on the front. The roofs are covered with Dutch tiles.
The front façade is entirely of sandstone with a slightly projecting, hardstone plinth. The façade openings have broad hardstone lintels, which are incorporated into a drip moulding. The windows are set in sandstone, profiled frames with deep recesses.
The entrance is located at the far right, a panelled door with a round-arched fanlight with leaded glass in a profiled door frame. Above it a nine-pane window with leaded glass. On the ground floor two identical, composite three-part window sections with casement windows and side lights. Fanlights with glazing bars and leaded glass. On the upper storey right three windows with T-frames under round-arched fanlight with glazing bars and painted leaded glass. Left in a spandrel panel an oriel window with bevelled sides with zinc hipped roof. Above the oriel window an iron lintel, along the underside of the oriel window a small dentil moulding. The oriel window has four narrow windows with glazing bars. Along the underside of the frames on the upper storey a relief band of narrow panel surfaces runs across the entire width of the building. The left half of the building has a sandstone gutter with rounded profiled gutters. The zinc downpipes emerge into a hardstone base in the plinth. In the top of the spout gable a tripartite window with a higher central pane, above which two round-arched small windows with a half-column. On the corners round medallions inscribed with 1895. The building is signed by Reus near the front door on the right.
The interior is fairly intact and has a number of special elements. In the draught lobby marble wainscoting and hardstone stairs. Marble fireplace with engraved 'Lex est quademque notamus' and tiled with faience. On the upper storey at the front is the kunstzaaltje with a raised ceiling which is painted. In the curved ceiling surfaces along the edges acanthus motifs and a painted list with leaf motifs. Along the top a relief list and an egg moulding. Also here a marble fireplace.
