Inleiding

Introduction

The Pastorie on Kerkstraat in Linne was built in 1869 in nineteenth-century eclectic style and designed by the architect F.F. van Schoubroeck, Roermond. Van Schoubroeck worked for some years in the atelier of the architect Pierre Cuypers in Roermond. The building shows influences from the pluriform Antwerp School, with which Cuypers had contacts. These influences were passed on to his atelier colleagues.

On the right side gable of the dwelling, a storage room was demolished in the nineteen-sixties and replaced by a garage. Around 1970, an extension was added to the rear gable. The building is surrounded by a very spacious garden layout.

The pastorie was built at a short distance from the former eighteenth-century church. On the church grounds, within the walls, a chaplaincy already stood. In 1897 the old church was replaced by the present St. Martinuskerk.

Description

The PASTORIE has a rectangular floor plan in three storeys under a gabled roof with Dutch tiles. On the roof are two chimneys with four flues connected internally. The building has a brickwork facade in English bond and is surrounded by a brick risalite plinth.

In the facades, on the first and second storeys, unless otherwise indicated, are rectangular wooden glazed windows and doors with segment-arch fanlights. In the top gable are three round-arch windows. All windows have stone sills. The building has no wall anchors in the facades.

The FRONT FACADE has a symmetrical layout and ends in a top gable. The entrance is centrally placed and is formed by a wooden door with glazed fanlight with a hardstone frame. Above the entrance is a window on the second storey. The central section of the front facade is accentuated by pilasters with a vertical hardstone band just below the window. To the left and right of the central section are in total two facade sections. Each facade section has a window on both the first and second storey. To the right of the central part is a cellar opening on the first storey. In the top gable are three narrow round-arch windows placed side by side with hardstone sills. To the left and right in the top gable are two facade stones with the text "Anno 1869". Between the second and third storey is decorative brickwork. The forms of the windows are accentuated by decorative brickwork.

The RIGHT SIDE GABLE has a glazed square window on the first storey as well as a garage which is excluded from protection. The LEFT SIDE GABLE has three windows on the first storey and a centrally placed window on the second storey. On the REAR GABLE is a conservatory with lean-to roof on the first storey. Beside the conservatory is a rectangular wooden door with side window. On the second storey are three windows and decorative brickwork under the roof edge. Pilasters accentuate, analogous to the front facade, the central section of the rear gable.

Of the INTERIOR authentic components have been preserved such as for example the wooden staircase on the second storey, the marble tile floor in the hallway on the first storey and stucco decoration on the pilasters in the hallways on the first and second storey.

Valuation

The PASTORIE on Kerkstraat in Linne, municipality Maasbracht, possesses cultural-historical values as a particular expression of the spiritual development of the Roman Catholic Church in Limburg and as an expression of the typological development as a pastorie. The architectural-historical values are determined by the high aesthetic qualities of the design of the pastorie as well as by the relationship that exists between the designer F.F. van Schoubroeck and the architect Pierre Cuypers in Roermond as joint influences from the Antwerp School. The pastorie has been preserved in excellent condition and given its construction date is a rare example. The pastorie is of general importance because of its architectural-historical and cultural-historical values, ensemble value, high integrity and rarity.
