Inleiding

Introduction

CHEESE DAIRY of the hall-house type, rarely found in the region, built in 1895 in Craft-traditional manner with Neo-Renaissance elements in the front facade, with associated PLOT BOUNDARY. Remarkable are the far-extended roof sections, the high hay loft whereby a second residential storey has been created, and the double upper chamber on the front. Also a particular feature is that the stable ran through to the front facade, where on account of the representative character a residential window has been installed. Around the front garden with three monumental linden trees a simple iron fence.

N.B. On the rear side there is a modern extension which is of secondary importance for protection.

Description

Erected on a rectangular floor plan, three-aisled farmhouse of one and partly two storeys and a basement on the south side, under a roof covered with red old hollow tiles with extending eaves and back roof. The front facade at the height of the first residential storey and the front part of the side facades in red/grey brickwork in English bond, the stable section and the gable in half-bond. The lower part of the front facade is plastered. The wooden rain gutter rests on blocks.

In the brickwork of the front facade (S) plastered decorative bands and closing and setting stones in the courses above the arched wall openings. Furthermore cast-iron wall anchors. The first floor is separated by a rat-tooth course. The front facade has a high plastered plinth with on the left and in the centre a two-light arched basement window. On the corners plastered, decorated pilasters. On the right in the facade of the originally through-running bay of the stables, the (new) front door with fanlight and a stone step. To the right of this a sash window. In the centre and on the left above the plinth are two pairs of sash windows. On the hay loft is an integrated room with two coupled sash windows above a plastered parapet. On either side of the central section a Doric pilaster arrangement in superposition. The upper pilasters support a cranked, profiled drip moulding, as it were in the manner of a pediment. In the gable a quatrefoil window and low in the hay loft two semicircular stable windows with fan glazing bars under archstones.

The right side facade (E) has five bays separated by pilaster strips with six semicircular stable windows with three-light glazing bars. The rear facade (N), half executed in wood, has on the left a stable door under a three-light fanlight and on the right the entrance doors.

In the largely blind left side facade (W) in the brick section two basement windows under archstones as on the front and in the wooden section to the left of this a small wooden four-light window.

Internally the main division of living/working has been largely retained, but partitions and bed-alcoves have disappeared. In the central aisle of the stable is a partitioned residential section, under the hay loft. The roof truss structure is original.

The front garden is separated from the road by a simple wrought-iron spear-railing fence whose main spears crowned by a cast-iron ornament (ace of spades) are braced on the rear side.

Valuation

The cheese dairy dating from the end of the nineteenth century with its associated plot boundary is of general importance on account of its cultural and architectural as well as typological value as a particularly fine specimen of the hall-house type in craft-traditional manner with Renaissance-style detailing characteristic of the building period. Furthermore, the farmhouse has ensemble value as an image-forming component of the varied historical ribbon development of Jisp.
