Complexonderdeel 1
De starttoren (SPORTGEBOUW) is opgetrokken in beton, heeft een vierkante plattegrond en verjongt zich naar boven toe in lichte mate. De top wordt gevormd door een commandopost onder een rietgedekt overstekend tentdak. De gevels zijn boven een plint van grindbeton witgepleisterd. De vensters in de toren en commandepost zijn voorzien van stalen kozijnen en roeden. De commandopost heeft aan drie zijden een rechthoekig uitgebouwde erker rustend op brede, trapsgewijs verspringende consoles van grindbeton met ruitmotief in reliëf. In de erkers negenruits vensters aan de voorzijde en smalle drieruits vensters aan de zijkant. De voorzijde (noordwest) heeft in plaats van een erker een betonnen balkon rustend op een console met extra lange vertikale ondersteuning. Op het balkon opent een driedelige glazen deur. Boven het balkon heeft het tentdak een korter dakschild waaronder de naam van de vereniging is geplaatst. Onder het balkon hangt een klok. Verder in de voorgevel op de begane grond een twaalfruits venster.
In de zijgevels (zuidwest en noordoost) zijn onder de consoles twaalfruits vensters geplaatst, boven een geschubde waterdorpel. Op de begane grond in de zuidwestelijke gevel een schildje met een zeilboot. In de noordoostelijke gevel een schildje met het bouwjaar 1922, de staf van Mercurius en de gemeentewapens van Koog a/d Zaan, Wormerveer en Zaandam en de afkorting ZV.
In de achtergevel (zuidoost) bevinden zich op de begane grond en direct onder de console toegangsdeuren.

De starttoren is van algemeen belang vanwege de cultuurhistorische waarde als uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van het toerisme rond de Kagerplassen in de jaren twintig van de twintigste eeuw.

The start tower (SPORTS BUILDING) is built in concrete, has a square floor plan and tapers slightly towards the top. The top is formed by a command post under a thatch-covered overhanging tent roof. The facades above a plinth of aggregate concrete are rendered white. The windows in the tower and command post are provided with steel frames and glazing bars. The command post has on three sides a rectangular projecting bay window resting on broad, stepped concrete consoles with diamond pattern in relief. In the bays nine-light windows on the front and narrow three-light windows on the side. The front side (north-west) has instead of a bay window a concrete balcony resting on a console with extra long vertical support. On the balcony opens a three-part glass door. Above the balcony the tent roof has a shorter roof panel under which the name of the association is placed. Below the balcony hangs a clock. Further in the front facade on the ground floor a twelve-light window.
In the side facades (south-west and north-east) twelve-light windows are placed below the consoles, above a fluted drip moulding. On the ground floor in the south-western facade a plaque with a sailing boat. In the north-eastern facade a plaque with the building year 1922, the staff of Mercury and the municipal coats of arms of Koog a/d Zaan, Wormerveer and Zaandam and the abbreviation ZV.
In the rear facade (south-east) access doors are located on the ground floor and directly below the console.
