Inleiding.
WINKEL met een tweetal WOONHUIZEN, in 1908 gebouwd in Art Nouveaustijl en gelegen op de hoek van de Sint Bernaertsstraat.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags pand, opgetrokken uit rode baksteen met speklagen en recent vernieuwd voegwerk. Schilddak met kruispannen gedekt. Het winkelhuis op no. 2 heeft op de twee etages eenvoudige schuiframen met ongedeeld bovenlicht onder segmenttogen gevuld met bricornastenen in rood en grijs. De speklagen en ornamenten zijn uitgevoerd in witte baksteen. De afgeschuinde hoek wordt bekroond met een in baksteen en grijze kalkzandsteen uitgevoerde en plat afgedekte dakkapel. Hier hebben de ramen hoefijzerbogen met kleurige baksteen. In de top een ronde jaarsteen en een afsluitend ijzeren hek tussen penanten. De winkelpui heeft een hoekingang met links en rechts brede etalageramen onder ijzeren lateien. Dit alles wordt omlijst door pilasters in geel en groen geglazuurde baksteen met geometrische versieringen en rustend op een hardstenen plint. Het stoepje heeft een eenvoudige terrazzo versiering in wit en bruin. Houten winkelinterieur met tegen twee wanden kasten met stijlen en afsluitende rondboogjes. Glas-in-lood in het bovenlicht en suitedeuren met geëtst glas. Het woonhuis no. 4 heeft drie traveeën en bezit dezelfde vormen als het winkelhuis. De ingang met paneeldeur bevindt zich in een ondiep portiek. Op het dak een dakkapel met overhoeks spitsje als bekroning. Aan de achterzijde heeft het pand eenvoudige gevels, met nieuwe ramen en een nieuwe aanbouw en ter hoogte van no. 2 een verlaagde aanbouw, thans onder een plat dak en voorzien van twee schuiframen van eenzelfde type als in de rest van het huis.
Waardering.
Het pand is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als getuigenis van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling; het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de receptie van actuele stijlen in een landelijke context en vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik; het heeft ensemblewaarde als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, de kern van Oudenbosch, dat cultuurhistorisch van nationaal belang is; het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Description.
Two-storey building, constructed of red brick with stone banding and recently renewed pointing. Hipped roof covered with crossing tiles. The shop building at no. 2 has on both storeys simple sash windows with undivided fanlights under segmental arches filled with brick and grey bricorna stones. The stone banding and ornaments are executed in white brick. The chamfered corner is crowned with a dormer window executed in brick and grey sand-lime stone and flatly finished. Here the windows have horseshoe arches with coloured brick. At the top a round date stone and a closing iron fence between pilasters. The shop front has a corner entrance with wide display windows to left and right under iron lintels. All of this is framed by pilasters in yellow and green glazed brick with geometric ornamentation and resting on a hard stone plinth. The doorstep has simple terrazzo decoration in white and brown. Wooden shop interior with cupboards on two walls with stiles and closing semicircular arches. Leaded glass in the fanlight and suite doors with etched glass. The dwelling at no. 4 has three bays and possesses the same forms as the shop building. The entrance with panel door is located in a shallow porch. On the roof a dormer window with a diagonally placed spire as a crown. On the rear side the building has simple facades, with new windows and a new extension and at the level of no. 2 a lowered extension, now under a flat roof and provided with two sash windows of the same type as in the rest of the house.
Valuation.
The building is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as evidence of socio-economic development; it has architectural-historical value as an example of the reception of contemporary styles in a rural context and because of its distinctive material use; it has ensemble value as an essential component of a larger whole, the centre of Oudenbosch, which is of national cultural-historical importance; it has been preserved intact.
