Inleiding.
VILLA, gebouwd in 1869-1870 door de aannemer Geerts in Eclectische stijl als jachthuis, voor de suikerfabrikant Rivière de Verninas. Gelegen in een tuin met landschappelijke aanleg aan de rand van de toenmalige kern van de gemeente. De ongesigneerde en ingekleurde ontwerptekening is bewaard gebleven en toont rijke dakkapellen die thans niet meer aanwezig zijn. In 1885 verkocht en in 1919 deel uitmakend van het internaat Sancta Maria. Thans na gedeeltelijke sloop en herbestemming der internaatsgebouwen in gebruik als kantoor- en woonruimte. De internaatsgebouwen elders op het terrein vallen buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving.
Tweelaags villa met souterrain, opgetrokken uit baksteen, gepleisterd en geel geschilderd. Geprofileerde kroonlijst met consoles. Mansardedak met nokversieringen en eternitleien. De voorgevel aan de zijde van de weg heeft een ruim terras, met balustrade en siervazen op een onderbouw, even hoog als het souterrain. Deze onderbouw heeft twee segmentvormig afgesloten beluikte openingen aan weerszijden van een frontale hardstenen bordestrap met gebogen wangen, eveneens met balustrade. De gevel wordt door cordons horizontaal geleed. Het benedendeel is geblokt gepleisterd. Het geheel telt drie traveeën, van elkaar gescheiden door pilasters, die op de begane grond geblokt zijn en op de eerste verdieping gecanneleerd met eenvoudige kapitelen. De T-ramen zijn beneden rondboogvormig afgesloten en voorzien van pilasters en een rondboog met kuif en palmetten in terracotta. Op de eerste verdieping zijn ze segmentvormig met een omlijsting met oreillons en kuif met kopje. In de hoektraveeën treffen we telkens een raam aan, op de eerste verdieping met een ondiep balkon op voluten met balustrade. In de middentravee beneden is een driezijdig uitgebouwde entree met drie rondboogvormige Franse vensters afgedekt met een lijst en balustrade. Erboven een ruim balkon met drie T-vormige Franse vensters. Boven de kroonlijst met verdiepte velden drie eenvoudige recht afgesloten dakkapellen.
De zij- en achtergevels zijn zeer eenvoudig gedetailleerd met waterlijst en cordons. In het souterrain segmentboogramen met kleine roedenverdeling. Op de begane grond en de etage T-ramen als in de voorgevel, maar met eenvoudige stucomlijsting. De achtergevel heeft drie traveeën met elk twee ramen en een eenvoudige plat afgedekte aanbouw, waarin de huidige entree onder rondboog geplaatst is. Inwendig hebben enkele kamers de eenvoudige stucplafonds met profielen uit de bouwtijd behouden. In het midden van het huis op de bel-etage een ruime erkerkamer met gepolychromeerd stucplafond met middenstuk met voluten en vruchten. Trappenhuis met eenvoudige trap met versierde spijlen.
Waardering.
De villa is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft waarde als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische en geografische ontwikkeling van West-Brabant onder invloed van de aanleg van de spoorverbinding; het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de stijl en detaillering en de wijze waarop stijlmotieven werden benut voor de representatie van de elite; het heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een groter geheel, de kern van Oudenbosch, dat stedenbouwkundig van nationaal belang is; het is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

Located in a garden with landscape design on the edge of the then centre of the municipality. The unsigned and hand-coloured design drawing has been preserved and shows rich roof dormers which are no longer present today. Sold in 1885 and in 1919 forming part of the boarding school Sancta Maria. Now after partial demolition and change of use of the boarding school buildings in use as office and residential space. The boarding school buildings elsewhere on the site fall outside the protection.
Description.
Two-storey villa with basement, constructed of brick, plastered and painted yellow. Moulded cornice with consoles. Mansard roof with ridge ornaments and eternit slates. The front facade on the road side has a spacious terrace, with balustrade and ornamental vases on a base, level with the basement. This base has two segmentally-ended shuttered openings on either side of a frontal sandstone flight of steps with curved strings, equally with balustrade. The facade is articulated horizontally by string courses. The lower part is rusticated plaster. The whole comprises three bays, separated from each other by pilasters, which on the ground floor are rusticated and on the first storey fluted with simple capitals. The T-windows are below semicircular-ended and furnished with pilasters and a semicircular arch with cornice and palmettes in terracotta. On the first storey they are segmental with a frame with ears and cornice with head. In the corner bays we find each a window, on the first storey with a shallow balcony on volutes with balustrade. In the central bay below is a three-sided projecting entrance with three semicircular-ended French windows covered with a cornice and balustrade. Above it a spacious balcony with three T-shaped French windows. Above the cornice with recessed panels three simple straight-ended roof dormers.
The side and rear facades are very simply detailed with drip moulding and string courses. In the basement segmental arch windows with small glazing bars. On the ground floor and the storey T-windows as in the front facade, but with simple stucco frame. The rear facade has three bays each with two windows and a simple flat-topped extension, in which the current entrance beneath a semicircular arch is placed. Internally some rooms have retained the simple stucco ceilings with mouldings from the building period. In the middle of the house on the bel-etage a spacious oriel room with polychrome stucco ceiling with centre piece with volutes and fruit. Staircase with simple stair with decorated balusters.
Valuation.
The villa is of general importance. The property has value as an expression of a socio-economic and geographical development of West Brabant under the influence of the construction of the railway connection; it has architectural-historical value because of the style and detailing and the manner in which stylistic motifs were employed for the representation of the elite; it has ensemble values as part of a larger whole, the centre of Oudenbosch, which is of national importance in town-planning terms; it has been preserved in good condition.
