The register's description

Inleiding.

Introduction.

The BARN of the Amaliahoeve was erected around 1938 in the forms of the Delft School and has an unusual representative character. The building was constructed according to very modern principles and techniques for the construction period. During the evacuation by the last owner around 1990 the bell was removed along with part of the bell gable on the short gable.

Description.

The rectangular barn is constructed from imitation hand-made brick in chain bond and has a substantial gabled roof with improved Dutch tiles and ventilation ducts between side gables. The barn is carefully detailed and has end gables with wattle and ornamental wall anchors. The facades have double sliding doors under iron lintels, the doors provided with diablo painting hang from iron pins set in natural stone blocks and the concrete windows have beneath a three-part division, above which small ventilation openings. The short front facade has a large double sliding door, two single doors, two loading doors with iron hoisting bar and three windows. A large lattice window with diagonal concrete mullions illuminates the interior of the barn. The left side facade has three double carriage entrances, providing access to the hay storage. The right side facade consists of various single doors and windows, which illuminate the cattle shed. The soberer rear facade has in the top a small round window and ventilation openings.

Internally the barn has eight bays. The roof is supported by seven laminated wooden curved roof trusses, which carry an open hay storage insulated with reeds and allow a broad unbroken hay storage area. This hay storage comprises the greater part of the space, on the right side on the ground floor there is a narrower and lower side aisle, where the cattle stalls and horse stalls situated along a long corridor and covered in stone are located. Above this likewise a hay storage area.

Valuation.

The barn of the farmhouse is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as an example of the socio-economic development of agriculture in the Brabantine Biesbosch, in particular the reclamation of natural areas for agricultural purposes and as an example of the typological development of the extremely modern barns for the construction period, the building is furthermore of importance for the technical development of roof truss structures in the Interbellum. From an architectural-historical perspective the property is of importance because of the special detailing for a barn, the coherence between exterior and interior, and the combination of traditional forms and modern techniques.

The farmhouse is important because of the integrity of its interior and exterior and is as such rare.
