Omschrijving onderdeel 4: POORTGEBOUW behorende tot de voormalige buitenplaats Arcen.
De voorburcht is toegankelijk middels een haakvormig poortgebouw uit 1653 (zie wapensteen met alliantiewapen van Marcelis van Gelder en Lüztenrode) gesitueerd op de noordwesthoek van het kasteeleiland. Schietgaten verwijzen naar de verdedigingsfunctie.
Het bakstenen gebouw heeft verdiepingloze vleugels met de toegang in een hoger opgetrokken poortpaviljoen met duivenzolder bekroond door een met leien gedekte lage achtkantige ingesnoerde (knobbel)spits. Aan de voorzijde een in natuurstenen rustica gevatte segmentboogvormige poortdoorgang, waarboven de reeds genoemde wapensteen en twee dichtgemetselde sleuven van het oude valbrugfront, net onder de daklijst een mergelband en in het midden tussen mergel- en daklijst een wijzerplaat. De zijde aan de binnenplaats heeft een gemetselde getoogde poortdoorgang, daarboven een mergelband, een wapensteen uit 1763 die vermoedelijk afkomstig is van de oranjerie (afbraak 1916) en een wijzerplaat. De beide zijvleugels aan de binnenplaats zijde worden geleed door getoogde dubbele inrijpoorten en licht getoogde vensters (gewijzigde gevelindeling); direct onder de daklijst enkele rechthoekige vensters. Inwendig gewijzigd.
Waardering
Het POORTGEBOUW is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;

Description
Description component 4: GATEHOUSE belonging to the former country estate Arcen.
The outer courtyard is accessible by means of a hook-shaped gatehouse from 1653 (see coat of arms stone with alliance arms of Marcelis van Gelder and Lüztenrode) situated on the northwest corner of the castle island. Gun ports point to its defensive function.
The brick building has single-storey wings with the access in a higher gatehouse pavilion topped by a low octagonal narrowed (knobbed) spire covered with slate tiles. On the front side a segmental arch-shaped gate passage set in rusticated natural stone, above it the aforementioned coat of arms stone and two bricked-up slots from the old drawbridge front, just below the roof line a marl band and in the middle between marl and roof line a clock face. The side facing the courtyard has a brick arched gate passage, above it a marl band, a coat of arms stone from 1763 presumably originating from the orangery (demolished 1916) and a clock face. Both side wings on the courtyard side are articulated by arched double carriage gates and slightly arched windows (modified facade layout); directly below the roof line some rectangular windows. Interior altered.

The GATEHOUSE is of general importance:
