Omschrijving
Omschrijving onderdeel 2: HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG behorende tot de voormalige buitenplaats Arcen.
Van belang is met name de 17de-eeuwse structuur gevormd door drie vierkante eilanden die door een brede buitengracht in een rechthoekig plan zijn gevat met lanen buitenom. Het meest noordelijke eiland is het kasteeleiland met centraal het omgrachte huis en op de hoeken (noordwest en zuidwest) de bijgebouwen; kastanjes op het voorplein, achter het huis enkele oude bomen.
Op het tweede eiland lag oorspronkelijk de moestuin met padenkruis (Tranchotkaart 1803-1820), met middenas en begeleidende taxussen (zie luchtfoto 1920) en de oude berceau van beuk langs de westzijde. Thans heeft het eiland een nieuwe (laat-20e-eeuwse) invulling. Het derde eiland was vermoedelijk als boomgaard in gebruik en had een centrale kom; het heeft thans een eigentijdse indeling/rondwandeling gekregen; in het midden een vijver.
Vanaf de thans nog aanwezige buitenlaan met bomen aan de oostzijde waren zichten naar buiten toe over een weide met solitairen (zie Topografische Militaire Kaart 1890); deze weiden zijn eind 20e eeuw heringericht.
De buitenlaan met dubbele bomenrij aan de westzijde is deels nog aanwezig; deze laan wordt halverwege doorsneden door een nieuwe doorgaande weg.
Waardering
De HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG behorende tot de voormalige buitenplaats Arcen is van algemeen belang:
- vanwege de ouderdom;
- vanwege de gaaf bewaarde 17de-eeuwse infrastructuur met uniek gevormd grachtenstelsel;
- vanwege de functioneel-ruimtelijke samenhang met de andere onderdelen van de buitenplaats.

Description
Description component 2: HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the former country estate Arcen.
Of particular importance is the 17th-century structure formed by three square islands that are enclosed by a wide outer canal in a rectangular plan with lanes around the outside. The northernmost island is the castle island with the surrounded house centrally positioned and on the corners (northwest and southwest) the outbuildings; chestnut trees in the front courtyard, behind the house several old trees.
On the second island originally lay the kitchen garden with cross paths (Tranchot map 1803-1820), with central axis and accompanying yews (see aerial photograph 1920) and the old beech pergola along the west side. At present the island has a new (late 20th-century) layout. The third island was presumably used as an orchard and had a central low area; it has now been given a contemporary design/circular walk; in the middle a pond.
From the now still present outer lane with trees on the east side were views outward over a meadow with specimen trees (see Topographical Military Map 1890); these meadows have been redesigned at the end of the 20th century.
The outer lane with double row of trees on the west side is partly still present; this lane is intersected halfway by a new through road.

The HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the former country estate Arcen is of general importance:
