The register's description

- vanwege het voorplein met inrijhek, brug en brugpalen;

- vanwege het restant van een landschappelijke aanleg uit de eerste helft van de 19de eeuw ter weerszijden van het huis, met onder meer een slingerpad en oud geboomte;

- vanwege de aanwezigheid van een cisterne;

- vanwege de vele 18de en 19de eeuwse tuinbeelden, geplaatst in de jaren '30 van de 20ste eeuw;

- vanwege de 19de eeuwse tuinmuur, die fungeert als erfscheiding aan de noordkant;

- vanwege de overtuin met formele aanleg uit de jaren '30 van de 20ste eeuw, waarin zuilen met bustes en andere tuinornamenten een prominente rol spelen, als zodanig één van de weinige gaaf bewaarde overtuinen aan de Vecht;

Description component 2 (at Oud Over 8): HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Bijdorp.

In 1786 Bijdorp was a large country estate with a functional character, consisting of among others a "Warmoeserderij", "Market garden land", "Lands, including and mostly all excellent good Peat land" and "... a strip of Land where at the end a Wharf for transhipment of Goods on the Vecht, situated diagonally opposite the aforementioned Homestead." On the homestead horses, cattle and hunting dogs were kept. Furthermore there were utility gardens with greenhouses present and one had land in use as meadowland. In 1806 the area of the country estate had been halved, the farmhouse and associated lands were no longer mentioned in the deed of conveyance of that year. However, mention was made of a "manor house, stalling and gardener's cottage", "greenhouses and cribs", "a front section of garden over the dike" (the front garden), "the dike to the width of the property" (the road Oud Over, to the width of the country estate) and pastures. Pleasure gardens are not mentioned in 18th and early 19th century reports, such gardens are also not depicted on maps from that period. During the first decades of the 19th century parts of the garden layout must have been laid out in landscape style. According to a representation by Lutgers (1836) the front garden would have had a planting of firs with winding walking paths laid out between them. Around the house there are nowadays still remains of a landscape parklet present with winding paths and old trees, largely dating from the 19th century. A group of plane trees north of the house presumably dates from the beginning of the 20th century. The design of the front garden dates from the 1930s, as does the characteristic arrangement of front garden and garden with a large number of garden sculptures and vases. Central to the front garden a lawn; left and right strips with shrub planting of among others rhododendrons and hydrangeas; around the lawn and behind the strips with shrub planting gravel paths; on the Vecht side a strip of grass, behind which a gravel path to the wharf. The front garden is enclosed on three sides (excepting the street side) by tall, partly old trees. In the left shrub planting strip four columns are positioned with busts on top. Central on the lawn a fine, 18th century marble vase with ornamental carving on a brick basement. Scattered throughout the garden still various other vases, sculptures and busts.

The country estate nowadays consists of the manor house, a deep garden, a shed and greenhouse from the 20th century and a front garden, together just over 1 ha. The wall on the street side and a couple of pollarded lime trees to the northwest of the main building recall the place where the coach house stood. In the first decades of the 20th century a raised terrace was laid out on the south side of the house. The northern plot boundary is marked by a wall over the full length of the country estate, possibly dating from 1808. On the plot adjoining to the north stands a farm complex, perhaps the farmhouse with dwelling and stalls originally belonging to Bijdorp. The arrangement of the gardens around the house was carried out in the 1980s according to plans by Trudi Woerdeman. In the design for the areas on either side of the house old trees and structures of the still present landscape layout were incorporated. The felling of a large number of trees, including several monumental ones, formed part of the redesign plan. The forecourt was provided as part of the redesign with a formal layout of box hedges inspired by the French parterre de broderie. Due to the recent date of laying out of the gardens behind the house this part of the country estate falls outside the protection. It concerns an entirely new formal layout directly behind the house, consisting of a pattern of box hedges around a central round pond and a car park with gravel to the south of this (1980s).

The land to the east of Bijdorp has belonged since the beginning of the 20th century to a plant nursery. Since the 1990s the land again forms part of the country estate. The terrain was after purchase by the owners of Bijdorp re-arranged according to a design by Groen Partners. In the continuation of the formal garden behind the house a standard orchard of old fruit varieties was planted, in the spirit of the orchard that was present until the 19th century in the southern part of the country estate. To the north of this a vegetable garden and 'wild' garden with pond feature were laid out. Two early 20th century greenhouses of the nursery were taken into use, one as a greenhouse, the other as a shed. This terrain acquired in the 1990s falls entirely outside the protection due to the new arrangement.

Valuation

The HISTORICAL GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Bijdorp is of general importance:

- because of the forecourt with entrance gate, bridge and bridge bollards;

- because of the remains of a landscape layout from the first half of the 19th century on either side of the house, including among others a winding path and old trees;

- because of the presence of a cistern;

- because of the many 18th and 19th century garden sculptures, placed in the 1930s;

- because of the 19th century garden wall, which functions as a property boundary on the north side;

- because of the front garden with formal layout from the 1930s, in which columns with busts and other garden ornaments play a prominent role, as such one of the few well-preserved front gardens on the Vecht;

- because of the functional-spatial coherence with the other components of the country estate.
