Omschrijving
Inleiding.
Ten zuiden van de vesting ligt in de bebouwde kom van Woudrichem de Algemene Begraafplaats, tot ca. 1980 begraafplaats van de Nederlandse Hervormde Gemeente. Het kerkhof ligt op een diep rechthoekig perceel met een middenpad met een ijzeren toegangshek met pijlpunten en granaatappels aan de straat. Enige meters na deze ingang liggen aan weerszijden van het grindpad twee BAARHUISJES uit ca. 1880. Op het kerkhof staan verschillende coniferen en bomen, o.a. een treurwilg.
Omschrijving.
De identieke gebouwtjes zijn opgetrokken in hout onder een zadeldak met overstek en windveren met makelaar. Het dak is belegd met Oegstgeesterpannen. Op de nok liggen alternerende ornamenten van palmetten en rozetten. De beide zijkanten hebben geen openingen, in de achterkant liggen vlakke opgeklampte dubbele deuren in ijzeren gehengen. De naar de weg gerichte zijden daarentegen zijn rijk geornamenteerd. De paneeldeuren hebben rechthoekige gietijzeren roosters met lelie-ornament. Centraal hierin lofwerk met links een vrouwen- en rechts een mannenkopje. Lofwerk ook in het ovale ornament in de onderste panelen. De gevels hebben verder een omranding van blindvelden met rozetten in elk veld. In de top centraal geplaatst een grote rozet van acht bladen rond het hart.
Waardering.
De baarhuisjes zijn van algemeen belang. Zij hebben cultuurhistorische waarde wegens de typologie en het ermee verbonden herinneringsaspect en als voorbeeld van de grafcultuur in de late negentiende eeuw. Zij zijn van architectuurhistorisch belang wegens het materiaalgebruik, de esthetische kwaliteit van de detaillering en zijn tevens van belang als een bijzondere uiting van de grafcultuur. Zij hebben ensemblewaarde als essentieel onderdeel van een samenhangend geheel bestaand uit het kerkhof, het hek en de beplanting. De objecten zijn bijzonder gaaf bewaard gebleven en zijn door opzet en detaillering uitermate zeldzaam.

Introduction.
South of the fortification lies in the built-up area of Woudrichem the General Cemetery, until approximately 1980 the cemetery of the Dutch Reformed Church. The churchyard lies on a deep rectangular plot with a centre path with an iron access gate with arrow points and pomegranates on the street. Several metres past this entrance lie on either side of the gravel path two MORTUARY CHAPELS from approximately 1880. In the churchyard stand various conifers and trees, including a weeping willow.
Description.
The identical small buildings are constructed in wood under a gabled roof with overhang and wind braces with tie-beam. The roof is covered with Oegstgeester tiles. On the ridge lie alternating ornaments of palmettes and rosettes. Both side walls have no openings, in the rear wall lie flat clamped double doors in iron hinges. The sides facing the street, by contrast, are richly ornamented. The panelled doors have rectangular cast-iron grilles with lily ornament. Centrally within this foliage work with on the left a female and on the right a male head. Foliage work also in the oval ornament in the lower panels. The gables furthermore have a border of blind panels with rosettes in each panel. In the top a large eight-petalled rosette centrally placed round the heart.
Valuation.
The mortuary chapels are of general importance. They have cultural-historical value because of the typology and the associated commemorative aspect and as an example of funeral culture in the late nineteenth century. They are of architectural-historical importance because of the use of materials, the aesthetic quality of the detailing and are also of importance as a special expression of funeral culture. They have ensemble value as an essential part of a coherent whole consisting of the churchyard, the gate and the planting. The objects have been preserved in particularly good condition and are by their design and detailing extremely rare.
