Inleiding
De POMP bevindt zich in het midden van het plantsoen aan de Hoogstraat en heeft een centrale plaats in het woningcomplex dat het echtpaar W. en Ch. E. van Beuningen hier in 1938 liet bouwen. Het ontwerp van de pomp, die evenals de woonhuizen in het complex Traditionalistische stijlelementen vertoont, is van de hand van architect C. Knuttel. De pomp is versierd met een pelikaanfiguur naar ontwerp van de beeldhouwer J. Maris uit Heumen.
Omschrijving
De pomp is opgetrokken in baksteen en heeft een vierkante doorsnede. Aan de voorzijde bevindt zich een koperen kraan, waarboven een ijzeren beugel is aangebracht, waaraan emmers gehangen kunnen worden. Hieronder een bassin met bakstenen rand. De zijden van de pomp springen in het midden licht vooruit. Aan de bovenzijde een uitkragende bakstenen afdekking, waarop een natuurstenen pelikaan is geplaatst, van de hand van de beeldhouwer J. Maris. Boven de kraan een bronzen gedenkplaat uit 1957, met de portretten van W. en Ch. E. van Beuningen.

De pomp behorend bij het volkswoningbouwcomplex in de "Piekenhoek" is van algemeen belang en heeft als onderdeel van het woningbouwcomplex cultuurhistorische waarde als uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling; het object bezit architectuur-/kunsthistorische waarde vanwege de bijzondere ornamentiek.
