Inleiding
GRAANSILO, ontworpen door J.G. Wiebenga in 1915 in opdracht van de CHV, de Coöperatieve Handelsvereniging van de NCB (de Noordbrabantse Christelijke Boerenbond). Het gebouw ligt op het terrein van de CHV aan de Veghelse haven temidden van diverse andere bedrijfsgebouwen en silo's. In functioneel opzicht vormt het daarmee een geheel. In de totale bedrijfsbebouwing hebben zich diverse wijzigingen voorgedaan. Alleen de betonnen hoogbouw in Zakelijke en Functionalistische vormen wordt beschermd.
Omschrijving
Hoge hoofdmassa op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder plat dak. De platte daken zijn voorzien van overstekken. Op het dak is een opbouw geplaatst. Het geheel is opgetrokken in een betonskelet waarbij wanden gedeeltelijk zijn ingevuld met baksteen en gedeeltelijk met beton. Tegen de zuidkant van de hoofdmassa staat een iets lager gedeelte. Hierin is een groot aantal ramen aangebracht. In de silo zelf bevinden zich alleen in de bovenste rand en in de opbouw ramen. Op de begane grond zijn enkele toegangen gemaakt. Alle ramen zijn voorzien van driedelige metalen kozijnen.
Het inwendige van de silo is verdeeld in hoge "cellen" met een vierkante plattegrond. Slechts de ruimte daaronder en daarboven is toegankelijk. Aan de onderzijde mondt elke cel uit in een trechtervorm en is aangesloten op een transportsysteem.
Waardering
De SILO is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van een economische en typologische ontwikkeling. Het object heeft architectuurhistorische waarden wegens het belang voor de geschiedenis van de bouwtechniek en vanwege de plaats die het gebouw inneemt in het oeuvre van de architect, het is een afwijkend bouwtype binnen het oeuvre van Wiebenga. Introduction
GRAIN SILO, designed by J.G. Wiebenga in 1915 on commission of the CHV, the Coöperatieve Handelsvereniging of the NCB (the Noordbrabantse Christelijke Boerenbond). Description
High main mass on a rectangular floor plan under flat roof. The flat roofs are provided with overhangs. A superstructure has been placed on the roof. The whole is constructed in a concrete skeleton with walls partially filled with brick and partially with concrete. Against the south side of the main mass stands a slightly lower section. A large number of windows have been installed in this. In the silo itself windows are only found in the top edge and in the superstructure. On the ground floor several entrances have been made. All windows are provided with three-part metal frames.
