Omschrijving
Inleiding
Voormalig WOONHUIS gebouwd rond 1902 in Eclectische stijl.
Waardering

Description
Introduction
Former DWELLING built around 1902 in Eclectic style. In 1998 in use as a doctor's practice. The architect is unknown. The timber merchant J. van Hoof lived here with his son the architect. The timber business was located on the rear plot. The house stands on a rectangular lot, in the facade row of the Spoorlaan with the front or north facade facing the street. The architecture of the house shows stylistic similarities with that of Spoorlaan 424, which was built in 1902. Both houses were built on commission from brick manufacturer C. van den Heuvel.
Description
The house has three storeys with an attic storey. The uppermost is lower than the bottom two storeys. It is covered by a hipped roof with grey Old Dutch tiles with the ridge perpendicular to the street. The front facade is three bays wide, and has a central risalit with balconies and balcony doors on the second and third storey. The first balcony rests on volute-shaped stone consoles and has a balustrade with turned balusters between corner pilasters. The balustrade of the second balcony is no longer present. The entrance section, in the left bay, contains a monumental carved front door with sight-through grilles and fanlight. The other wall openings in the facade contain sash windows. Those of the top storey are T-shaped. The masonry consists of red/purple brickwork alternated by a cement basement, banding courses, cordon lines and frieze, which are painted white. The facade is finished with a Doric frieze with cornice, triglyphs and metopes. Around all wall openings moulded stucco lintels with cyma moulding. Those of the first balcony have volute-shaped setting stones on either side. The risalit is bordered across its full height by cement setting stones. The hall of the house has a marble floor and richly decorated stucco walls furnished with pilasters of the Corinthian order with entablature. The second storey is accessible via a wooden staircase. The third storey and attic, presumably servants' rooms, are accessible only by a wooden spiral staircase around a central spindle from the ground floor.
Valuation
The house is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as an example of socio-economic development, namely the construction of richly detailed townhouses within the existing urban structure and is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the dwelling house. From an architectural-historical perspective it is of importance because of its style. The house is important because of the integrity of its exterior and has ensemble value as part of a townscape characterized by structural and visual integrity.
