Inleiding
Voormalige BROODBAKKERIJ uit 1932 in de stijl van het Functionalisme (de Stijl), naar ontwerp van architect S.G. Barenbrug (Tilburg), nu in gebruik als woonhuis. De bakkerij is gebouwd voor A. Vorselaars Jr. Aan de zuidkant van de bakkerij, op de hoek Elzenstraat/Acaciastraat ligt het bijbehorende oudere winkelhuis, dat niet in de bescherming is betrokken. Links in de voorgevel van de bakkerij bevindt zich een overbouwde poort, die toegang geeft tot een open binnenplaats achter de bakkerij. De binnenplaats grenst aan het winkelhuis. De bakkerij ligt ingeklemd tussen de huizen van de lintbebouwde Acaciastraat.
Omschrijving
Tweelaags bedrijfspand onder plat dak met aan de achterkant een eenlaagse uitbouw eveneens onder plat dak. De broodbakkerij is opgetrokken uit baksteen. De gevels zijn witgepleisterd. De voorgevel bestaat beneden uit twee delen: links twee deuren en rechts een halferker met driedeling gedeeltelijk voorzien van glas-in-lood, op een blauw betegelde plint. Boven in de tweede bouwlaag een smal driedelig liggend venster met eronder een zwartverglaasde lekdorpel, die gedeeltelijk in het gevelvlak doorloopt. Tussen beide bouwlagen een smalle betonnen luifel met daarop in ijzeren kapitalen de tekst: "Broodbakkery". Diepe neggen bij de vlakke voor- en poortdeur. Naast het zwart van de stalen kozijnen en ramen en het wit van het pleisterwerk zijn in de voorgevelcompositie van horizontale en verticale vlakken en lijnen, de primaire kleuren gebruikt. Het interieur is vrijwel in orginele staat. De oven van de bakkerij is uit de bakkerij van voor 1932. De verdieping wordt gebruikt als meelzolder. Onder het voorgedeelte bevindt zich een kelder. De verlaagde achterbouw is voorzien van een glaskap.

Vorselaars Jr. On the south side of the bakery, at the corner of Elzenstraat/Acaciastraat, lies the associated older shop building, which is not included in the protection. The bakery is wedged between the houses of the linear development on Acaciastraat.
Description
Two-storey commercial building with flat roof and at the rear a single-storey extension also with flat roof. The bakery is constructed of brick. The facades are rendered white. The front facade consists below of two sections: on the left two doors and on the right a half-bay window with tripartite division partly fitted with leaded glass, on a blue tiled plinth. Above on the second storey a narrow tripartite horizontal window with below it a black-glazed drip moulding, which partially continues across the facade plane. Between both storeys a narrow concrete canopy with upon it in iron capitals the text: "Broodbakkery". Deep reveals at the flat front and gateway doors. Alongside the black of the steel window frames and windows and the white of the rendered work, primary colours are used in the front facade composition of horizontal and vertical planes and lines. The interior is virtually in its original state. The oven of the bakery is from a bakery before 1932. The storey is used as a flour loft. Beneath the front section is a cellar. The lowered rear building is fitted with a glass roof.
Valuation
The bakery is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical significance as a distinctive expression of the socio-economic development, in particular the growth of industry in the interwar period, it is significant because of the rare combination of style and building type. It has architectural-historical significance as a particularly good example of Functionalism applied to a commercial building, because of the considered application of only a limited range of architectural motifs and as an example of the oeuvre of Tilburg architect S.G. Barenbrug. It has been preserved intact in all its details of colouring and is furthermore significant because of its architectural-historical rarity.
