Inleiding
KAPEL, op het achterterrein van het appartementencomplex gelegen. De kapel is in 1907 gebouwd in een Neogotische stijl naar ontwerp van architect W.J.A. Bouwman.
Omschrijving
De driebeukige kapel heeft een middenschip onder zadeldak, gedekt met leien. Het schip is drie traveeën lang. De korte transeptarmen onder zadeldak zijn recht gesloten. De viering is van een open achtkantige klokkentoren voorzien en wordt bekroond door een spits met een kruis en haan. De kapel heeft een driezijdig gesloten koor, één travee diep. Op de begane grond en in de lichtbeuk zijn spitsboogramen aangebracht. Per travee is een luchtboog, uitgevoerd in baksteen met een afdekplaat geplaatst. De steunberen onder de luchtbogen zijn éénmaal versneden.
De voorgevel laat de driedeling van middenschip en zijschepen duidelijk zien. Het middenschip is veel hoger opgetrokken. De gevel is voorzien van spitsbooglisenen. Op de begane grond is in het midden een brede deur aangebracht met een tripletvormig bovenlicht. Erboven bevinden zich nog drie kleine raampjes. De zijschepen hebben een smallere ingang waarboven een raam is geplaatst. De topgevels zijn versierd met in het metselwerk verwerkte kruisen.
De gevels van het transept zijn voorzien van hoge smalle spitsboogramen. In de topgevels zijn lijsten en blindnissen verwerkt. In het midden bevindt zich een lege nis met baldakijn en console. In het dakvlak bevinden zich kleine driehoekige dakkapelletjes.
In het interieur heeft de kapel bakstenen kruis- en stergewelven. De gewelven zijn van rijk bewerkte sluitstenen voorzien. Ook de gordel- en scheibogen zijn uitgevoerd in baksteen, ze staan op marmeren zuilen op een hardstenen voet. De kapitelen hebben een loofvormige versiering. De wanden zijn wit gepleisterd. Onder de houten orgelgalerij is een gietijzeren wenteltrap geplaatst.
Waardering
De kapel is van algemeen belang. A cast-iron spiral staircase is placed beneath the wooden organ gallery.
