Former CHAUFFEUR'S LODGE from 1910, forming part of the estate complex Duin en Kruidberg. The dwelling designed to the design of G. Meppelink is located on the corner of the Duin en Kruidbergerweg and a side road of this which runs through the southern part of the estate. The glazing bar window on the left in the left side gable was added in the early 1980s. The blinds, as well as the leaded glass in the front door and in the three-part window in the right side gable are not original (XXd).

Description

Dwelling house built on an approximately square ground plan consisting of a ground floor, an attic storey with high parapet wall and a compound roof covered with red Flemish tiles. The latter is composed of a gabled roof with the ridge line perpendicular to the front gable and a half-hipped roof adjoining the right rear wall of this. The roof has a slight overhang all round on moulded brackets. The external walls are raised in orange-red facing brick in half-brick bond with slightly recessed joint. On the left rear wall stands to the left of centre a square chimney of the same brick. In the gables there are wall anchors at the height of the floor of the attic and that of the low loft above the roof truss. In addition to brick, red Bremer sandstone is used at the ends of the sill covers likewise laid in orange-red facing brick. Above each window there is a brick roll course of the same brick. The triangular top of the front and rear gables is executed in wood and consists of four panels.

The front gable (E) is composed of a combination of a pointed gable and a narrow and lower gable section to the right of this above which a dormer with two four-pane windows and a flat roof. In the right gable section there is a round-arched passage behind which a porch with on the rear wall on the right a small six-pane window and on the left a panelled door with above a horizontal six-pane window. The pointed gable is provided with a horizontal storey window in which three six-pane windows and a double French door flanked by eight-pane side lights with in each door leaf an eight-pane pane and above four four-pane fanlights.

The INTERIOR still contains some elements from the building period including panelled doors and a narrow stair leading to the upper storey with at the bottom and top a quarter turn and wooden handrail. The low cellar situated beneath the stair has rendered barrel-vault ceilings. The roof truss structure is boarded with wide boards.
