Inleiding
Dubbel HERENHUIS gelegen in de gesloten straatwand van de Willem II singel met bebouwing van het begin van de 20ste eeuw. Het pand is gebouwd in XIXd in negentiende-eeuws traditionele stijl.
Achter beide panden zijn later keukens aangebouwd, deze is bij pand nr 48 nog opgehoogd met een verdieping. Bij pand nr 48 is ook een dakkapel geplaatst.
Omschrijving
Het HERENHUIS met gespiegelde symmetrische gevelindelingen heeft een hoofdzakelijk rechthoekige plattegrond in drie bouwlagen en een souterrainverdieping met meerdere kelders, onder een zadeldak met muldenpannen.
De VOORGEVELS bestaan beide uit drie traveeën. Elke gevel heeft een doorlopende geprofileerde hardstenen plint met horizontale banden en twee dubbele souterrainvensters met hekwerk. Pand nr 46 heeft een niet authentiek hekwerk. De opstand is van baksteen in vlaamsverband met opstaande voeg met knip- en snijwerk, verder speklagen en cordonlijsten. In de gevel bevinden zich rechthoekige houten dubbele kozijnen met bloktandornamenten en segmentboogvormige glas-in-lood bovenlichten. Verder vier hardstenen treden en dorpels. De vensters in de tweede en derde bouwlaag bevinden zich in hardstenen lijsten. Elke pand heeft in de eerste laag een verdiept gelegen entree met een originele paneeldeur met brievenbus en centraal geplaatste greep, een venster met hekwerk en kroonlijst. Boven de deur bevindt zich een bovenlicht oorspronkelijk met gekleurd glas-in-lood. De voordeur van nr 46 is geel geschilderd. In de overige traveeën bevinden zich vensters.
Pand nr 46 heeft vensters met dubbel glas en geen glas-in-lood.
Onder de vensters in de eerste laag bevinden zich natuursteen basementen. In de tweede laag bevinden zich vensters met natuursteen basement tussen de borstweringen. Voor de middelste twee traveeën bevindt zich een dubbel balkon met smeedijzeren hekwerk en dubbele balkondeuren. Boven dit balkon bevindt zich in de derde bouwlaag een tweede balkon met rijker gedecoreerd hekwerk, dat zich herhaalt voor de overige vensters in de derde laag. Onder de overstekende goot bevinden zich zeven grote gestucte consoles met spitsen waartussen bloktanden. Op het dakvlak bevinden zich een schoorsteen, twee nokschoorstenen.
Tegen de nok bevinden zich twee daklichten voor verlichting van het trappenhuis.
De ACHTERGEVELS van de panden bestaan beide uit drie traveeën.
Tegen de eerste laag is een uitbouw geplaatst. Pand nr 48 heeft de eerste laag witgeschilderd. Vanaf de uitbouw loopt een balkon tot voor de gevel. Deze heeft een trap van baksteen, gedeeltelijk gecementeerd naar de tuin en van de tuin naar het souterrain.
In het souterrain bevinden zich kleine vensters en een deur.
Pand nr 46 heeft een uitbouw met twee venster en een deur onder een zadeldak. En pand nr 48 heeft een uitbouw van twee lagen onder een plat dak, met in de eerste laag twee houten deuren. In de overige traveeën bevinden zich twee dubbele vensters met bovenlicht en in de derde laag dubbele vensters.
Bij pand nr 48 zijn twee leuningen aangebracht.
De STRUCTUUR VAN beide INTERIEUREN is in hoge mate gaaf. De trappenhuizen bevinden zich in het midden van de panden, tussen voor- en achterkamer. Op de tweede verdieping bevindt zich een kamerscheidende wand voor een venster.
WAARDEVOLLE INTERIEURONDERDELEN zijn bij pand nr 46 en nr 48 onder meer paneeldeuren o.a. met geslepen glas, marmeren haardlijsten en gestucte plafondornamenten in kamers en in de hal vier treden met leuningen, zwart-witte marmeren tegels, gestucte vrouwenhoofden, authentiek trappenhuis en tussendeuren met glas-in-lood.
Waardering
Het dubbele herenhuis aan de Willem II-singel 46-48 bezit cultuurhistorische waarden als typologisch voorbeeld van een herenhuis uit het eind van de negentiende eeuw. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door de hoogwaardige esthetische kwaliteiten van het ontwerp, de toepassing van materiaalgebruik en de rijke ornamentiek, zowel exterieur als interieur.
De ensemblewaarden worden bepaald door de bijzondere betekenis van het herenhuis vanwege de situering aan één van de singels en is hiermee verbonden met de ontwikkeling en uitbreiding van Roermond tegen het eind van de negentiende eeuw. Double TOWNHOUSE located in the closed street wall of the Willem II singel with buildings from the early 20th century. The building was constructed in the XIXd in nineteenth-century traditional style.
Behind both buildings kitchens were added later; at building no. 48 this was extended upwards with an additional storey. At building no. 48 a roof dormer was also installed.
Description
The TOWNHOUSE with mirrored symmetrical facade divisions has a mainly rectangular floor plan in three storeys and a basement storey with multiple cellars, beneath a gabled roof covered with panned tiles.
The FRONT FACADES both consist of three bays. Each facade has a continuous moulded sandstone plinth with horizontal bands and two double basement windows with ironwork. Building no. 46 has non-authentic ironwork. The elevation is of brickwork in Flemish bond with raised mortar joints with cutting and carving work, furthermore speckled courses and cornice strings. In the facade are rectangular wooden double windows with block-tooth ornaments and segmental arch-shaped leaded glass fanlights. Further four sandstone steps and thresholds. The windows in the second and third storeys are positioned in sandstone surrounds. Each building has in the first storey a recessed entrance with an original panelled door with letterbox and centrally placed handle, a window with ironwork and cornice. Above the door is a fanlight originally with coloured leaded glass. The front door of no. 46 is painted yellow. In the other bays are windows.
Building no. 46 has windows with double glazing and no leaded glass.
Beneath the windows in the first storey are natural stone basements. In the second storey are windows with natural stone basement between the parapets. In front of the middle two bays is a double balcony with wrought-iron railings and double balcony doors. Above this balcony in the third storey is a second balcony with more richly decorated ironwork, which repeats for the other windows in the third storey. Beneath the overhanging gutter are seven large stucco consoles with spikes between which are block-teeth. On the roof plane are a chimney, two roof-ridge chimneys.
Against the ridge are two roof lights for lighting the staircase.
The REAR FACADES of the buildings both consist of three bays.

VALUABLE INTERIOR COMPONENTS are at building no. 46 and no. 48 including panelled doors for instance with cut glass, marble fireplace surrounds and stuccoed ceiling ornaments in rooms and in the hall four steps with railings, black and white marble tiles, stuccoed female heads, authentic staircase and internal doors with leaded glass.
Valuation
The double townhouse at Willem II-singel 46-48 possesses cultural-historical values as a typological example of a townhouse from the end of the nineteenth century.
