The register's description

Inleiding

De Halfvrijstaande NOTARISVILLA, gelegen op de hoek van de Godsweerdersingel en de Slachthuisstraat, is gebouwd aan het eind van de negentiende eeuw in negentiende-eeuws Traditionele stijl naar ontwerp van architect Fr. Dupont voor notaris Strens.

Het pand is later in gebruik genomen als hoofdkantoor van de Limburgse Tramweg Maatschappij LTM, als hotel en is momenteel een meubelzaak.

Omschrijving

NOTARISVILLA met hoofdzakelijk rechthoekige plattegrond in twee bouwlagen met souterrain en een samengesteld schilddak met leien. Onder de dakrand zijn bloktanden en een overstek met consoles. Het pand heeft een optrek van baksteen in kruisverband met speklagen. In de gevel bevinden zich hoofdzakelijk rechthoekige houten kozijnen met bovenlicht in een getoogde nis met rode profielsteen, vulstukken en aanzet- en sluitstenen. Voor de vensters bevinden zich balustrades.

De VOORGEVEL bestaat uit vier traveeën. In de drie linker traveeën bevindt zich per travee en per verdieping één venster.

De rechter travee risaleert en is breder en heeft in de eerste laag een rondboogvormige poort met glas-in-lood bovenlicht en een hekwerk. In de tweede laag bevinden zich twee smalle vensters, waarboven een balustrade. Hierachter is een derde bouwlaag met een gebogen gevel onder een flauw hellend dak. In dit gevelvlak bevinden zich drie vensters tussen twee zich verbredende bakstenen kolommen onder kleine gewelfde tentdaken met leien. Boven de vensters bevindt zich een gecementeerde band en geprofileerd metselwerk.

De ACHTERGEVEL bestaat uit vier traveeën en heeft geheel links een brede travee waar de poort op eindigt. Deze ligt terug en in de tweede laag is de gevel eveneens gebogen en wordt ondersteund door houten consoles met houtsnijwerk. In dit gevelvlak bevinden zich twee vensters onder een speklaag. De gevel eindigt in een golvend opstaand gevelvlak met een klein venster tussen rechthoekige nissen die de daklijn volgen. Rechts bevindt zich een travee met per laag één venster en een risalerende travee met een ingang tot het souterrain, oorspronkelijk voor het personeel, met dubbele houten deur met roedeverdeling onder een segmentboog en een niet orgineel afdak. In de eerste laag bevindt zich een driedelig venster met bovenlicht, waarboven een glas-in-loodvenster ter plaatse van het trappenhuis en in de derde laag een dichtgetimmerd venster.

De rechtertravee heeft in de eerste laag een zeszijdige ERKER in rodere steen. Deze heeft geheel links een deur, verder vensters, waarvan de achterzijde is dichtgezet. Hierboven bevinden zich dubbele balkondeuren en een balustrade.

In de ZIJGEVEL bevinden zich twee dubbele souterrainvensters met hekwerk en in de eerste en tweede laag twee vensters. De rechtertravee bevat blinde nissen. Op de hoek van de Slachthuisstraat en de Godsweerdersingel is één travee, als hoekoplossing schuin geplaatst, dat als volume risaleert en eindigt in een torentje met gebogen tentdak. Per verdieping één venster en in het torentje een klein rond venster onder de rode vleilagen en galmgaten onder de dakrand.

De POORT loopt rechts door het gebouw, heeft drie kruisribgewelven op geprofileerde kolommen en gaf toegang tot de oorspronkelijke entree met bovenlicht met bloktanddecoratie.

De STRUCTUUR van het INTERIEUR is in tact.

Het pand is uitzonderlijk rijk aan interieuronderdelen.

WAARDEVOLLE INTERIEURONDERDELEN zijn ondermeer in de hal de trap met hardstenen treden en leuning, geprofileerde deurlijsten met stucwerk op fronton, trappenhuis met gietijzeren spijlen onder houten leuning, kariatiden en rijk stucwerk aan plafond met afbeeldingen van bloemen, fruit en dieren.

Waardering

De VILLA bezit cultuurhistorische waarden als typologisch voorbeeld van een notarisvilla uit het eind van de negentiende eeuw. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door het bijzondere belang voor de geschiedenis van de architectuur, het belang voor het oeuvre van architect Dupont uit Roermond en zijn verbondenheid met de stad. Introduction

The Semi-detached NOTARY'S VILLA, located at the corner of the Godsweerdersingel and the Slachthuisstraat, was built at the end of the nineteenth century in nineteenth-century Traditional style to the design of architect Fr. Dupont for notary Strens.

Description

NOTARY'S VILLA with predominantly rectangular floor plan in two storeys with basement and a composite hipped roof with slate tiles. Under the eaves are block teeth and an overhang with consoles. The building has a brick elevation in running bond with speckled courses. The facade contains predominantly rectangular wooden cross windows with fanlight in an arched niche with red moulding stone, filler pieces and impost and springer stones. Balustrades are positioned in front of the windows.

The FRONT FACADE consists of four bays. In the three left bays there is one window per bay per storey.

The right bay projects forward and is wider and has on the first storey a round-arched doorway with leaded-glass fanlight and ironwork. On the second storey there are two narrow windows, above which is a balustrade. Behind this is a third storey with a curved facade under a shallow pitched roof. In this facade plane there are three windows between two widening brick columns under small vaulted tent roofs with slate tiles. Above the windows is a cemented band and moulded brickwork.

The REAR FACADE consists of four bays and has on the far left a wide bay where the doorway ends. This is set back and on the second storey the facade is likewise curved and is supported by wooden consoles with carved woodwork. In this facade plane there are two windows under a speckled course. The facade ends in a wavy projecting facade plane with a small window between rectangular niches following the roofline. On the right is a bay with one window per storey and a projecting bay with an entrance to the basement, originally for staff, with double wooden door with glazing bars under a segmental arch and a non-original canopy. On the first storey there is a three-part window with fanlight, above which is a leaded-glass window at the location of the stairwell and on the third storey a boarded-up window.

The right bay has on the first storey a hexagonal ORIEL in redder stone. This has on the far left a door, further windows, of which the rear side is closed off. Above these are double balcony doors and a balustrade.

In the SIDE FACADE there are two double basement windows with ironwork and on the first and second storey two windows. The right bay contains blind niches. On the corner of the Slachthuisstraat and the Godsweerdersingel is one bay, positioned at an angle as a corner solution, that projects as a volume and terminates in a turret with curved tent roof. One window per storey and in the turret a small round window under the red roof tiles and sound holes under the eaves.

The GATEWAY runs to the right through the building, has three cross-ribbed vaults on moulded columns and provided access to the original entrance with fanlight with block-tooth decoration.

The STRUCTURE of the INTERIOR is intact.

The building is exceptionally rich in interior components.

VALUABLE INTERIOR COMPONENTS include in the hall the staircase with ashlar steps and railing, moulded door casings with stuccowork on pediment, stairwell with cast-iron spindles under wooden railing, caryatids and rich stuccowork on ceiling with depictions of flowers, fruit and animals.

Assessment

The VILLA possesses cultural-historical values as a typological example of a notary's villa from the end of the nineteenth century.
