Inleiding
De KNECHTSWONING, behorend bij de boerderij Schansstraat 32, is gesitueerd ten oosten van het pad dat naar het erf leidt en is evenals de boerderij van de weg af gelegen. De knechtswoning werd in het laatste kwart van de negentiende eeuw gebouwd, vermoedelijk door de Raamsdonkse aannemer Leijsen. Het gebouw toont een traditioneel-ambachtelijke vormentaal. In de jaren zeventig onderging de knechtswoning een verbouwing, waarbij de achtergevel werd voorzien van twee nieuwe vensters en de bedstee in de achterkamer werd verwijderd. In het portaal werd een toiletruimte aangebracht.
Omschrijving
Eenlaags knechtswoning onder zadeldak, gedekt met oud-Hollandse pannen. Boven het westelijk dakschild een schoorsteen. Gevels opgetrokken in baksteen, in de voorgevel een gepleisterde plint. Gietijzeren muurankers. Boogvormige natuurstenen gevelbekroning. De ingangspartij van de knechtswoning is gelegen in de noordelijke kopgevel en bestaat uit een paneeldeur met bovenlicht. In de noordelijke en westelijke gevel is het pand voorzien van rechtgesloten vensters met zesruits schuifraam en houten luiken. Ter hoogte van de zolder in de voorgevel een kleiner zesruits schuifraam.
In de achtergevel (zuidgevel) twee nieuwe vensterpartijen. Inwendig toont de knechtswoning in hoofdlijnen nog de oorspronkelijke dispositie. Een klein portaal geeft toegang tot de woonruimte, die bestaat uit een tweetal vertrekken met hiertussen een open doorgang. In de voorkamer bevindt zich nog een bedstee.
Waardering
De knechtswoning is van algemeen belang. Het object bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling: het is een goede illustratie van de woonomstandigheden van knechten en hun gezin op negentiende-eeuwse boerderijen. Voorts illustreert het als uiterst eenvoudige knechtswoning bij een boerderij een typologische ontwikkeling. De knechtswoning bezit ensemblewaarde als essentieel onderdeel van het boerderijcomplex. The FARMWORKER'S DWELLING, belonging to the farmhouse Schansstraat 32, is situated to the east of the path that leads to the farmyard and is, like the farmhouse, set back from the road. The farmworker's dwelling was built in the last quarter of the nineteenth century, presumably by the Raamsdonk contractor Leijsen. The building shows a traditional-craftsman formal language. In the seventies the farmworker's dwelling underwent renovation, whereby the rear gable was provided with two new windows and the box bed in the rear room was removed. In the entrance hall a toilet room was installed.
Description
Single-storey farmworker's dwelling under a gabled roof, covered with old Dutch tiles. Above the western roof plane a chimney. Gables built in brickwork, in the front gable a plastered plinth. Cast-iron wall anchors. Arched natural stone gable coping. The entrance section of the farmworker's dwelling is located in the northern end gable and consists of a panelled door with fanlight. In the northern and western gable the building is provided with rectangular windows with six-pane sash window and wooden shutters. At the height of the attic in the front gable a smaller six-pane sash window.
In the rear gable (south gable) two new window sections. Internally the farmworker's dwelling shows in main features still the original layout. A small entrance hall gives access to the living space, which consists of two rooms with between them an open passage. In the front room there is still a box bed.
Valuation
The farmworker's dwelling is of general importance. The object possesses cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a socio-economic development: it is a good illustration of the living conditions of farmworkers and their family on nineteenth-century farmhouses. Furthermore, as an extremely simple farmworker's dwelling attached to a farmhouse, it illustrates a typological development. The farmworker's dwelling possesses ensemble value as an essential component of the farmhouse complex. Finally, the farmworker's dwelling is of importance as a rare example of this building type.
