Inleiding.
KRUISBEELD gesitueerd op de als dorpsgezicht beschermde Houtse Heuvel in de kern van Den Hout. Het object ligt direct aan de weg in de zuidoostelijke punt van het driehoekige middeleeuwse plein, aan het einde van de zichtas vanuit de Vrachelsestraat. Het uit 1930 daterende kruisbeeld is ontworpen in een stijl die elementen vertoont van het Kubistisch-Expressionisme en de Neo-Gotiek. Het is 14 september 1930 geplaatst, op het naamfeest van de heilige Cornelius, vereerd als patroon van het vee en de patroonheilige van de plaatselijke parochie.
Omschrijving.
Het frontaal gerichte, symmetrische bouwsel beslaat een vierkante plattegrond en bestaat uit een Latijns kruis met blokvormige onderbouw waaraan een Christusbeeld, centraal gelegen op een kiezelvloer die omzoomd wordt door een hekwerk tussen vier hoekpijlers en op een basement.
Het natuurstenen beeld toont een lijdende Christus, met doornenkroon en zijdewond en gekleed in een perizonium, een korte, los omgeslagen lendedoek. CRUCIFIX situated on the Houtse Heuvel, protected as a village scene, in the centre of Den Hout. The object stands directly by the road at the south-eastern corner of the triangular medieval square, at the end of the sight line from Vrachelsestraat. The crucifix dating from 1930 is designed in a style that shows elements of Cubist-Expressionism and Neo-Gothic. It was placed on 14 September 1930, on the name feast of Saint Cornelius, venerated as the patron of livestock and the patron saint of the local parish.

The frontally oriented, symmetrical structure occupies a square floor plan and consists of a Latin cross with cubic understructure to which a Christ statue is attached, centrally located on a gravel floor which is bordered by fencing between four corner pillars and on a basement.
The natural stone image shows a suffering Christ, with crown of thorns and side wound and dressed in a perizonium, a short, loosely draped loincloth. The hands are nailed to the cross, the feet to the suppedaneum. The cross title reads 'INRI'. The Christ statue hangs on a sober geometrical artificial stone cross with a stepwise rising, cubic understructure with bevelled tops and on the sides and back three braces with bevelled tops. The surrounding white gravel floor is bordered by a sober iron bar fence placed on an artificial stone basement between small artificial stone pillars with decoratively carved heads, provided with Greek crosses directed towards four sides.
