Omschrijving
HISTORISCHE TUIN- EN PARKAANLEG behorende tot de buitenplaats Slot Zuylen. Het karakter van de tuinaanleg van de buitenplaats wordt bepaald door de formele opzet bestaande uit een rechthoekig terrein omgeven door grachten, singels en lanen. Het kasteelterrein wordt gevormd door het omgrachte huis met aan de noordoostzijde de omgrachte rechthoekige voorburcht en daaromheen aan drie zijden een terrein met nutstuinen eveneens omgeven door water (zie kaart H. Verstrale, 1624). Van de 18de-eeuwse formele aanleg resteren de boomgaarden en de op de landtong gebouwde slangenmuur (zie J.H. van Suchtelen, 1742). De ovale bloementuin is van recentere datum. Voor het huis is een eenvoudige kleinschalige aanleg in landschapsstijl uit circa 1840 bestaande uit een weide met rondgaand wandelpad en een klein wandelbosje. Het ontwerp van J.D. Zocher (1840) is gedeeltelijk uitgevoerd (bospartij in hoek naast boomgaard). De relatie tussen het huis en de tuinaanleg is in het midden van de 18de eeuw versterkt door het verplaatsen van de hoofdingang van het kasteel van de noordoost- naar de zuidoostzijde. Vanaf de ingangspartij is één zicht naar buiten toe geprojecteerd. Deze zichtas, thans enigszins dichtgegroeid, loopt over weilanden naar het zuidoosten toe, oorspronkelijk gericht op de Domtoren als 'point de vue'. Een andere zichtas loopt vanaf het poortgebouw over de weilanden met twee molens.

HISTORIC GARDEN AND PARK LAYOUT belonging to the country estate Slot Zuylen. The character of the garden layout of the country estate is determined by the formal design consisting of a rectangular terrain surrounded by moats, paths and avenues. The castle terrain is formed by the moated house with on the northeast side the moated rectangular forecasement and around it on three sides terrain with utility gardens likewise surrounded by water (see map H. Verstrale, 1624). From the 18th-century formal layout remain the orchards and the serpentine wall built on the spit of land (see J.H. van Suchtelen, 1742). The oval flower garden is of more recent date. In front of the house is a simple small-scale design in landscape style from around 1840 consisting of a meadow with a perimeter footpath and a small wooded walk. The design by J.D. Zocher (1840) was partially executed (wooded area in the corner next to the orchard). The relationship between the house and the garden layout was strengthened in the middle of the 18th century by moving the main entrance of the castle from the northeast to the southeast side. From the entrance section one sight line is projected outward. This sight axis, now somewhat overgrown, runs over meadows towards the southeast, originally aimed at the Domtoren as a 'point de vue'. Another sight axis runs from the gatehouse over the meadows with two mills.
