Inleiding
Gietijzeren LANTAARNPAAL met vijf gaslantaarns van het type Ritter-lantaarn. De in eclectische stijl uitgevoerde lantaarnpaal is afkomstig van de ijzergieterij J.C. Nering Bögel en Co. te Deventer. Het ontwerp dateert uit 1862, maar de lantaarnpaal in Lochem is door de gemeente aangekocht in 1887.
De lantaarnpaal staat op de oorspronkelijke plaats ten noorden van de Nederlands Hervormde Kerk op de Markt in Lochem.
Omschrijving
Rijk geornamenteerde gietijzeren LANTAARNPAAL voorzien van vijf Ritter-lantaarns. De lantaarnpaal heeft één hoofdlantaarn en vier armen met een kleinere lantaarn. Het geheel staat op een vierkante onderbouw bestaande uit een voetplaat met een sokkel die aan de bovenzijde is afgedekt' door een dekplaat. De voetplaat heeft tegen elke zijde een blokvormig element waarboven een krulvormige decoratie. Op het blokvormige element dat op het zuiden gericht is bevindt zich de inscriptie J.L. NERING/ BÖGEL EN CO/ DEVENTER'. Boven de voetplaat is een vierkante sokkel geplaatst. Op de vier hoeken van de sokkel bevinden zich uitsparingen waarin een composietzuil geplaatst is. De zijvlakken hebben in beide bovenhoeken een rozet. De rest van het vlak wordt ingenomen door een nis. Aan de onderkant van de nis bevindt zich in het midden een gekrulde decoratie. Bij twee zijvlakken is de gekrulde decoratie omgeven door een kader. De sokkel wordt aan de bovenzijde afgesloten door een hoofdgestel met op elke zijvlak centraal, een fraai uitgevoerde leeuwekop, bekroond door een krulvormige decoratie.
Op de onderbouw staat een ronde paal die is opgebouwd uit een basement, een romp en de armatuur voor de lantaarns. Het cilindrisch vormgegeven basement wordt aan de bovenzijde rondom afgesloten door reeks stervormige decoraties. Rondom het basement staan vier fraai uitgevoerde griffioenen. Op het basement bevindt zich een ingesnoerd segment, voorzien van groeven en krulvormige decoraties. De taps toelopende romp van de paal is aan de onderzijde voorzien van palmetten. De romp van de paal is glad uitgevoerd, heeft aan de onderzijde enkele decoraties en wordt aan de bovenzijde rondom afgesloten door een reeks stervormige decoraties. De kop van de paal is opgebouwd uit verschillende onderdelen die afwisselend uitstulpen en insnoeren. Bovenaan de kop bevindt zich de hoofdlantaarn die voorzien is van een glazen ommanteling. Aan de bovenzijde worden de lantaarns afgedekt door een soort bolle dekplaat, de eigenlijke lantaarn. Hierop bevindt zich een lantaarntje (buitensnuiver) dat bekroond wordt door een piron.
De armaturen van de zijlantaarns zijn aan de bovenste deel van de paal bevestigd en gedecoreerd met rozetten, bladvormige- en krulmotieven. De vier lantaarns zijn iets kleiner van afmeting maar hebben dezelfde opbouw als de hoofdlantaarn.
Waardering

Cultuurhistorische omschrijving
Uit de notulen van B&W van 1887 blijkt dat op 21 juli 1887 op voorstel van B&W wordt besloten 'van de heeren J.C. Nering Bögel en Co. te Deventer aan te koopen den lantaarn (Candelabre) met vijf lantaarns, bedoeld in hun schrijven van 29 juni 1887 onder na. 7 voor den prijs van f.300,-'. In een brief van 29 juni 1887 wordt dit model, zij het met vier lantaarns (!), aan de gemeente Lochem met korting aangeboden (f300,- i.p.v. f325,-): 'Daar wij 7 gereed hebben en deze gaarne zouden plaatsen willen wij den prijs hiervan terugbrengen op f300,- hetzegge drie honderd gulden, en hopen dat deze verlaging u mag bewegen deze candelabre te koopen, welke in 1879 te Arnhem met goud bekroond werd.' (Brief van 29 juni 1887 van J.L. Nering Bögel en Co. aan de Burgemeester van Lochem). De bij de brief geleverde folder toont bij nr. 7 een lantaarnpaal met bolle lantaarns, hetgeen ook in de brief vermeld wordt: 'De lantaarns van 7 zijn bol met koper gemont.' De lantaarnpaal in Lochem heeft echter vijf lantaarns van het type Ritter-lantaarn (Geheel ronde lantaarn, zonder sponningen en voorzien van een kap waarin reflectoren zijn aangebracht. Genoemd naar de constructeur). Het is heel goed mogelijk dat de lantaarnpaal geleverd is met vier lantaarns en dat de vijfde lantaarn (hoofdlantaarn) later is geplaatst. Description
Richly ornamented cast-iron LAMP STANDARD equipped with five Ritter-lamps. The lamp standard has one main lamp and four arms with a smaller lamp. The whole stands on a square substructure consisting of a base plate with a plinth which is covered at the top by a cover plate. Against each side of the base plate is a block-shaped element above which is a curled decoration. On the block-shaped element facing south is the inscription J.L. NERING/ BÖGEL EN CO/ DEVENTER'. Above the base plate is a square plinth. On the four corners of the plinth are recesses in which a composite column is placed. The side surfaces have a rosette in both upper corners. The rest of the surface is occupied by a niche. At the bottom of the niche is a curled decoration in the centre. In two side surfaces the curled decoration is surrounded by a frame. The plinth is closed at the top by a main cornice with, on each side surface centrally, a finely executed lion's head, crowned by a curled decoration.
On the substructure stands a round pole which is built up from a basement, a shaft and the fittings for the lamps. The cylindrically shaped basement is closed at the top all around by a series of star-shaped decorations. Around the basement stand four finely executed griffins. On the basement is a constricted segment, provided with grooves and curled decorations. The tapered shaft of the pole is provided with palmettes at the bottom. The shaft of the pole is smoothly finished, has some decorations at the bottom and is closed all around at the top by a series of star-shaped decorations. The head of the pole is built up from different components which alternately project and constrict. At the very top of the head is the main lamp which is provided with a glass casing. At the top the lamps are covered by a kind of curved cover plate, the actual lamp. On this is a small lamp (snuffer) which is crowned by a finial.
The fittings of the side lamps are attached to the upper part of the pole and decorated with rosettes, leaf-shaped and curled motifs. The four lamps are somewhat smaller in size but have the same structure as the main lamp.
Valuation

From the minutes of the Board of Burgomasters and Aldermen of 1887 it appears that on 21 July 1887, following a proposal from the Board of Burgomasters and Aldermen, it was decided to 'purchase from Messrs.
