Inleiding
Ten noordwesten kazemat 441 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 442, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse aan de zijde van het kanaal gedeeltelijk afgegraven.
Omschrijving
De kazemat staat op een honderdtal meters ten zuiden een voorheen het kanaal kruisende landbouwweg en kan door het linker schietgat flankerend vuur op deze weg afgeven. Tevens kan de S-kazemat frontaal en flankerend vuur geven op het voorterrein. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtssporen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. Het geheel heeft een grote belevingswaarde en is als grootschalig militair complex en herinnering aan een belangrijke episode uit de nationale geschiedenis zeldzaam.

Northwest of casemate 441, on the western bank of the Defensiekanaal stands the S (3a) CASEMATE 442, dating from 1939-1940. The bank is partly excavated at this location on the canal side.
Description
The casemate is situated approximately one hundred metres south of a former agricultural road that previously crossed the canal and can deliver flanking fire through its left firing aperture on this road. Likewise, the S-casemate can deliver frontal and flanking fire on the foreground. The casemate has been preserved intact and shows no battle damage.
Valuation
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and is as such an important document of military history. It is of architectural and building-historical importance because of the special use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the working of reinforced concrete. It has ensemble values as an essential component of a larger whole, which is of cultural-historical importance, and is important because of the high quality of the buildings and the historical-spatial relationship with roads, waterways and soil conditions. The whole has great amenity value and as a large-scale military complex and reminder of an important episode from national history is rare.
