Inleiding
Ten noorden van kazemat 409 staat op de westelijke kade van het Defensiekanaal de S (3a) KAZEMAT 410, daterende uit 1939-1940. De wal is ter plaatse nog geheel aanwezig en heeft nog nagenoeg het oorspronkelijke profiel.
Omschrijving
De kazemat staat een honderdtal meters ten noorden van de plaats waar het kanaal de Deurneseweg, de belangrijke ontsluitingsweg tussen Oploo, De Rips en Deurne, kruist. Door het rechter schietgat kan de kazemat flankerend vuur op deze weg geven. Door het middelste schietgat geeft de kazemat frontaal vuur op een onverharde landbouwweg, dat parallel ten noorden van de Deurneseweg loopt. De kazemat is gaaf bewaard gebleven en vertoont geen gevechtssporen.
Waardering
De kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de versterking en daaropvolgende verdediging van Nederland tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog en is als zodanig een belangrijk document van de militaire geschiedenis. Het is van architectuur- en bouwhistorisch belang wegens het bijzondere materiaalgebruik en de toepassing van moderne materialen en technieken, met name in de verwerking van gewapend beton. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als essentieel onderdeel van een groter geheel, dat cultuurhistorisch van belang is en is van belang wegens de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van de bebouwing en de historisch-ruimtelijke relatie met wegen, wateren en bodemgesteldheid. North of casemate 409 stands on the western bank of the Defence Canal the S (3a) CASEMATE 410, dating from 1939-1940. The rampart is still completely present at this location and still has virtually its original profile.
Description
The casemate stands a hundred metres or so north of the place where the canal crosses the Deurneseweg, the important access road between Oploo, De Rips and Deurne. Through the right loophole the casemate can provide flanking fire on this road. Through the middle loophole the casemate provides frontal fire on an unpaved farm road that runs parallel to the north of the Deurneseweg. The casemate has been well preserved and shows no signs of combat.
Valuation
The casemate is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the fortification and subsequent defence of the Netherlands during the Second World War and as such is an important document of military history. It is of architectural and historical-construction importance because of the particular use of materials and the application of modern materials and techniques, in particular in the use of reinforced concrete. It has ensemble values as an essential part of a larger whole, which is of cultural-historical importance and is of importance because of the high quality of the construction and the historical-spatial relationship with roads, waters and soil conditions. The whole has great aesthetic value and as a large-scale military complex and reminder of an important episode in national history is rare.
