Inleiding

Description
Introduction
Former ELECTRICITY STATION together with DRINKING WATER WORKS with within it SERVICE DWELLING, OFFICE, WORKSHOP and STORAGE, now three dwellings with workshop and storage. Front facade in Eclectic style with elements of the Chalet style in the central section. The building for a service business was erected in 1904 by the "N.V. Electriciteit en Waterleiding Maatschappij te Ginneken", a private initiative of a retired cavalry officer, Jan Meinard Simon, who lived in Teteringen on the estate "Laanzicht". Already a year later it became a private enterprise under the name "Nieuwe Electriciteit en Waterleiding Maatschappij", with as owner Rudolph Elias van Voorst van Beest from Beusichem.
In the business, which was very progressive, water from the river Mark was sterilized by ozone and electricity was generated, a unique undertaking in the Netherlands. In the neighbouring municipality of Breda electric lighting only arrived in 1918. The "prise d'eau", where the water from the Mark was taken, lay on the far side of the Ulvenhoutselaan and consisted of a simple building with several pumps. On the site, to the left of the business, stood until approximately 1950 a water tower, in which the river water was purified and sterilized with ozone. On the site there still stand two water springs (spring water), which were tapped by the aforementioned company. To reduce costs the "assortment" was expanded in 1911 with an ice factory. In 1921 the business was taken over by the municipality of Ginneken and Bavel. The production of electricity then ceased.
With the annexation in 1942 of the municipality by Breda the water extraction from the Mark was also stopped.
Description
The business building which stands freely on the plot consists of two rectangular single-storey factory halls lying one behind the other under parallel gabled roofs parallel to the Ulvenhoutselaan. The front factory hall (the front building) contains among other things a representative single- and two-storey section in which the service dwelling, office, main entrance, storage and workshop. The second factory hall (the rear building) adjoins the front building over its full width.
The front building is symmetrical in layout. It has a two-storey, projecting middle section under gabled roof perpendicular to the street three bays wide containing among other things the main entrance.
The middle section is flanked by single-storey side wings two bays wide also under gabled roofs but with the ridge parallel to the street. The single-storey rear building has a gabled roof with lantern. All roofs have roof overhang with wooden wind braces, they are covered with Tuile du Nord tiles. The roof overhang above the projection in the front facade has a false truss. The walls are constructed of purple-red hand-moulded brickwork laid in cross bond with pilasters of yellow brickwork at the corners, basement with moulded stones, mortared frieze and cornice moulding. The wall openings have cast-iron windows with small glazing bars. On the ground floor and first floor rounded-arch windows and in the gable tops round windows. Front door with wrought-iron ventilation grilles.
In the interior of the service dwelling with office two carved wooden chimney surrounds, stucco ceilings with mouldings, wooden panel doors and stair. Both roofs have iron truss structures assembled by bolts, with INP-profiles as purlins. In the rear building two boilers from 1931 are installed, which originally had a connection with the water extraction.
The boilers come from the firm "Reineveld" from Delft.
The inscription reads: "afd. Tymoor". The site is closed off at the street front by a beech hedge. On the site itself stand symmetrically two beech trees from the time of construction of the station.
