Inleiding.

Introduction.

HUNTING LODGE from 1870, built for Eugène Francois Joseph de Zerezo de Tejada, born in Diest on 1-7-1824 as son of Joseph Vincent de Paule de Zerezo de Tejada and Elisabeth Desirée Lynen. He purchased in the years 1869-76 more than 300 hectares of waste land in Goirle west of the Rovertse Leij and further in Poppel and Hilvarenbeek and owned at least four farms in this area.

Description.

The hunting lodge has two storeys under a gabled roof with a ridge parallel to the front facade and corner chimneys. The lower storey is 4.00 meters the upper approximately 3.00 meters high. The ground floor level lies 1.00 meter above ground level. The house has four bays. The wall openings and windows of front and rear facade have chamfered upper corners. The windows of the ground floor have eight-pane glazing fitted with shutters and those of the upper storey a six-pane glazing without shutters. In the roof on the corners of the front facade are round corner turrets with pointed round roof towers. The roofs of these turrets are covered with natural stone slate. In the front facade a blind arcade frieze and string course. At front and rear door a frontal stone staircase. The walls are built of hand-made brick laid in cross bond.

The interior of the house is authentic with only minor alterations.

Valuation.

The hunting lodge is of general importance. It has cultural-historical importance as a particular expression of socio-economic development, namely the establishment of country houses in land reclamation estates in the nineteenth century, it is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the hunting lodge. The object is of architectural-historical importance through the style and detailing and the references to an aristocratic past in turrets and friezes. It is of importance because of the architectural-historical and typological rarity of such a hunting lodge and because of its internal and external integrity.
