Inleiding
Voormalig RAADHUIS van de gemeente Tongelre, in 1911 gebouwd naar ontwerp van J. Stuyt. In het pand in Um 1800-stijl is gebruik gemaakt van classicistische elementen. Het pand doet nu dienst als wijkgebouw. De linkerzijgevel is bij een verbouwing gewijzigd. Het ligt aan 't Hofke, een oude ringvormige structuur in het stadsdeel Tongelre.
Omschrijving
Eénlaags pand op een rechthoekige plattegrond onder een schilddak waarvan de nok evenwijdig aan de straat loopt. De voorgevel is zeven traveeën breed en heeft een symmetrische opzet. Het pand is uitgevoerd in baksteen, voorzien van een gepleisterde kroonlijst. Direkt daarboven is een gootlijst op klossen geplaatst. Het dak is gedekt met bitumen. Tegen de voorgevel is in het midden een brede risaliet geplaatst onder een schilddak haaks op dat van de hoofdmassa. Hierin bevindt zich een portiek met rondbogen, op hoekpijlers en in het midden op toscaanse zuilen geplaatst. In het portiek is een dubbele deur aanwezig, geflankeerd door zesruitsramen. In de voorgevel zijn, naast de risaliet ramen aangebracht waarbij in het bovenlicht een roedenverdeling zichtbaar is. In de strekken boven de ramen is een natuurstenen sluitsteen aangebracht. Midden op het dak staat een opengewerkte dakruiter. De dakkapel boven het portiek heeft een fronton.
Het interieur is gewijzigd ten gunste van de veranderde functie.
Waardering
Het voormalige raadhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaal-economische en bestuurlijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de stichting van rijk gedetailleerde raadshuizen in kleinere gemeenten; het is tevens van belang als bijzonder voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het plattelandsraadshuis. Het object is van architectuurhistorisch belang door de stijl en detaillering en als voorbeeld in het oeuvre van de architect Stuyt. Former TOWN HALL of the municipality of Tongelre, built in 1911 after a design by J. Stuyt. In the building in circa 1800 style, classicistic elements have been used. Description
Single-storey building on a rectangular floor plan under a hipped roof with the ridge running parallel to the street. The front facade is seven bays wide and has a symmetrical arrangement. The building is executed in brick, provided with a plastered cornice. Directly above this is a gutter moulding on corbels. The roof is covered with bitumen. Against the front facade in the centre is a broad risalit placed under a hipped roof perpendicular to that of the main mass. This contains a portico with arches, placed on corner pillars and in the middle on Tuscan columns. In the portico is a double door, flanked by six-pane windows. In the front facade, windows have been placed alongside the risalit with a glazing pattern visible in the fanlight. In the sections above the windows a natural stone keystone has been placed. In the middle of the roof stands an open-work roof turret. The dormer above the portico has a pediment.
The interior has been altered to suit the changed function.
