Inleiding
Op de westelijke oever van de Maas staat, ten zuiden van de Staaiweg, vrij in de uiterwaard en gescheiden van de Staaiweg door het Afleidingskanaal, het betonnen restant van een KAZEMAT van het type G, waarschijnlijk een (180) hz, daterende uit 1939. Ter bemachtiging van de 9,5 ton zware gietstalen koepel heeft de Duitse bezetter in 1941 de kazemat opgeblazen. De kazemat beveiligde met (1) de veerplaats tegen een vijandelijke oversteek vanaf de oostelijke oever.
Omschrijving
Van de kazemat resteert de werkvloer met de gewapend-betonnen omhulling van de als schroot afgevoerde gietstalen koepel. Uit het beton steekt een deel van de stalen wapening. Duidelijk waarneembaar zijn de aanhechtingspunten van de verdwenen koepel. De oostelijke, noordelijke en een deel van de zuidelijke wand hebben hun oorspronkelijke vorm behouden; de westelijke wand is door de explosie een kwartslag gedraaid.
Waardering
De bouwval van een kazemat is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een culturele en geografische ontwikkeling, namelijk de aanleg van een verdedigingslinie kort voor de Tweede Wereldoorlog, gebruikmakend van bestaande elementen in het landschap; het is van belang voor de typologische ontwikkeling van de kazematten. Het heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van de verdedigingslinie op de oostoever van de Maas. Het is als voorbeeld van een door de bezetter onttakelde kazemat betrekkelijk zeldzaam.

Introduction
On the western bank of the Meuse stands, south of the Staaiweg, freely in the flood plain and separated from the Staaiweg by the Afleidingskanaal, the concrete remnant of a CASEMATE of type G, probably a (180) hz, dating from 1939. To recover the 9.5 tonne cast-steel cupola the German occupier blew up the casemate in 1941. The casemate protected with (1) the ferry site against enemy crossing from the eastern bank.
Description
Of the casemate remains the working floor with the reinforced-concrete casing of the cast-steel cupola removed as scrap. Part of the steel reinforcement projects from the concrete. The attachment points of the vanished cupola are clearly observable. The eastern, northern and part of the southern wall have retained their original form; the western wall has been rotated a quarter turn by the explosion.
Valuation
The ruins of a casemate are of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a cultural and geographical development, namely the construction of a defence line shortly before the Second World War, making use of existing elements in the landscape; it is of importance for the typological development of casemates. It has ensemble value as part of the defence line on the eastern bank of the Meuse. It is as an example of a casemate dismantled by the occupier relatively rare.
