Inleiding
Het blokvormige vrijstaande BEDRIJFSPAND annex WOONHUIS staat tegenover het Boxmeerse station en is gebouwd omstreeks 1890.
Het is één van de eerste panden die bij de 'ijzeren baan' werden gebouwd. Het hoofdgebouw heeft een haakse achterbouw, eveneens daterend uit het einde van de negentiende eeuw. De detaillering heeft neo-gotische elementen. Omstreeks 1950 is tegen de gehele zuidelijke gevel van het complex een eenlaags aanbouw gezet, die buiten de bescherming valt. De oorspronkelijke gevel is daarbij gehandhaafd.
Omschrijving
Het tweelaags hoofdgebouw heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en een zadeldak, belegd met oud Hollandse pannen. De handvorm bakstenen gevel, voorzien van een gepleisterde plint, heeft acht vensterassen. De gevel wordt afgesloten door een fries met gemetselde tandlijst. De tuitgevels van de zijgevels zijn voorzien van een gemetseld klimmend segmentboogfries, in de top een driepas vormend. Op de hoeken van het gebouw zijn ter hoogte van de goot doorstekende sierpijlers gemetseld. Op de nok van het dak staan drie schoorstenen. Achter het linkerdeel van de voorgevel, bestaande uit vijf vensterassen, ligt het woonhuis. Midden in dit deel van de gevel is een vleugelpaneeldeur met kussens, smeedijzeren deurroosters en bovenlicht, bereikbaar via een uit vier treden bestaande hardstenen trap. Links en rechts van de voordeur zijn tegen de muur twee smeedijzeren lantaarns uit omstreeks 1900 bevestigd. In de voorgevel van het woonhuis zijn uitsluitend T-schuifvensters met bovenlichten, bestaande uit glas-in-lood panelen geplaatst. In het zuidelijke gedeelte van het hoofdgebouw is het bedrijf gevestigd. In dit deel van de voorgevel zijn links een deur, waarboven een T-venster, en rechts vensters met ijzeren roedenverdeling, waarboven op de etage een opgeklampt laadluik, geplaatst. De noordelijke zijgevel van het hoofdgebouw is blind, terwijl in de zuidelijke gevel ter hoogte van de zolder twee rondboogvensters met ijzeren roedenverdeling zijn aangebracht. Op de etage is één van de blinde rondboognissen omstreeks 1930 doorgebroken. Tegen de achtergevel staat een forse eenlaags aanbouw onder zadeldak, voorzien van oud Hollandse pannen. Ook dit in plattegrond rechthoekige gebouw behoort tot het bedrijf en maakt deel uit van het oorspronkelijke bouwplan. De achtergevel is gepleisterd en voorzien van een muuranker, in de vorm van een andreaskruis. De witgeschilderde handvormbakstenen zijgevels zijn over de volle lengte tot ca. drie meter hoogte ingesloten door eenlaags moderne aanbouwen onder plat dak (ca. 1950, 1970). Voor het woonhuis ligt een kleine voortuin, voorzien van een smeedijzeren pijlpuntenhek. Aan de straatzijde staan een paardekastanje (ca. 2.3 meter stamdoorsnede) en een linde (ca.2 meter stamdoorsnede).
Waardering
Het bedrijfspand is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling van de nijverheid door de aanleg van de spoorlijn en als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het meerlaags bedrijfsgebouw annex woonhuis. Het is architectuurhistorisch vanwege de stijl en de gotiserende ornamentiek. Het gebouw is tevens van belang vanwege de gaafheid van het exterieur. The block-shaped detached BUSINESS PREMISES together with RESIDENTIAL HOUSE stands opposite Boxmeer station and was built around 1890.
It is one of the first buildings erected beside the 'iron railway'. The main building has a right-angled rear extension, also dating from the end of the nineteenth century. The detailing features neo-gothic elements. Around 1950 a single-storey extension was added against the entire southern facade of the complex, which falls outside the protection. Description
The two-storey main building has a rectangular plan and a gabled roof, covered with old Dutch tiles. The handmade brick facade, provided with a plastered plint, has eight window bays. The facade is finished with a frieze with moulded dentil course. The spout gables of the side facades are provided with a moulded climbing segmental arch frieze, forming a trefoil at the apex. At the corners of the building at the height of the gutter, decorative brick pilasters are laid through. On the ridge of the roof stand three chimneys. Behind the left part of the front facade, consisting of five window bays, lies the residential house. In the middle of this part of the facade is a wing-panel door with cushions, wrought-iron door grilles and fanlight, accessible via a stone staircase consisting of four steps. To the left and right of the front door, two wrought-iron lanterns from around 1900 are attached to the wall. In the front facade of the residential house, exclusively T-sash windows with fanlights consisting of leaded glass panels have been placed. In the southern part of the main building, the business is located. In this part of the front facade, on the left a door, above which a T-window, and on the right windows with iron glazing bars, above which on the storey a clamped loading hatch, have been placed. The northern side facade of the main building is blank, while in the southern facade at the height of the loft two round-arched windows with iron glazing bars have been installed. On the storey, one of the blank round-arched niches was broken through around 1930. Against the rear facade stands a substantial single-storey extension under a gabled roof, covered with old Dutch tiles. This building, also rectangular in plan, belongs to the business and forms part of the original building plan. The rear facade is plastered and provided with a wall anchor, in the form of a St Andrew's cross. The whitewashed handmade brick side facades are enclosed over their full length to approximately three metres height by single-storey modern extensions under flat roof (c. 1950, 1970). In front of the residential house lies a small front garden, provided with a wrought-iron arrow-point fence. On the street side stand a horse chestnut tree (c. 2.3 metres stem diameter) and a linden tree (c. 2 metres stem diameter).
Valuation
The business premises is of general importance. The building has cultural-historical importance as an example of the socio-economic development of industry through the construction of the railway line and as an example of the typological development of the multi-storey business building together with residential house. It is architecturally important because of the style and gothicizing ornamentation. The building is also important because of the integrity of its exterior. It has ensemble values in relation to Stationsstraat with reasonably intact development.
