Inleiding
Aan de zuidelijke zijde van de Kapelstraat staat, nabij de kerk van Rijkevoort, een WINKEL-WOONHUIS uit 1914. Het pand vertoont elementen van sobere geometrische Nieuwe Kunst stijl. Omstreeks 1980 is tegen de westelijke gevel een moderne aanbouw geplaatst. De laatste valt buiten de bescherming.
Omschrijving
Het gebouw heeft een globaal rechthoekige plattegrond, bestaat uit een bouwlaag en wordt gedekt door een samengesteld geknikt zadeldak met geglazuurde muldenpannen. Tegen het schild aan de straatzijde staan drie dakkapellen. De nok is voorzien van drie schoorstenen en pirons.
De bakstenen gevels zijn voorzien van banden van strengperssteen. De plint en het fries zijn bepleisterd, de topgevel boven de winkelepui is deels betimmerd en voorzien van een openslaand venster met zij- en bovenlichten. De gevel heeft een a-symmetrische indeling. Het oostelijk deel van het gebouw wordt ingenomen door een dubbel woonhuis, het westelijk door de winkel met magazijn. Het woonhuis heeft een gevel met achtereenvolgens een T-schuifvenster, een paneeldeur met zeshoekig licht, een T-schuifvenster, nog een paneeldeur en tenslotte twee T-schuifvensters. Alle T-schuifvensters hebben gekleurd glas in de onderruiten en een gedeeld bovenlicht.
Het rechterdeel van de voorgevel wordt ingenomen door de winkelgevel, bestaande uit een brede symmetrische pui met terugliggende deur, geflankeerd door etalagevensters onder ijzeren latei met rozetten. De bovenlichten van de etalage zijn voorzien van glas-in-lood.
Naast de voordeur een gevelsteen met gelijkluidend opschrift als dat op de topgevel: "Anno / 1914 / erven A. Verbruggen".
In het portiek van de winkelpui is een mozaiekvloer met de initialen A. en V. Voor de winkel staat een Abeel met een omtrek van ca. 3 meter, mogelijk daterend uit de bouwtijd van het pand. Het interieur heeft nog globaal de oorspronkelijke indeling.
Waardering
De winkel is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van de sociaal-economische ontwikkeling, in het bijzonder de uitgroei van de detailhandel op het platteland. Het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het winkelhuis. Het heeft architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege de stijl en detaillering, die actuele motieven, ontleend aan de stedelijke bouwkunst, toepast ter verhoging van het wervende karakter en is tevens van belang vanwege het bijzondere materiaalgebruik. Het woon-winkelpand is gaaf bewaard gebleven.

On the southern side of Kapelstraat stands, near the church of Rijkevoort, a SHOP-DWELLING HOUSE from 1914. The property displays elements of austere geometric New Art style. Around 1980 a modern extension was placed against the western facade. The latter falls outside the protection.
Description
The building has a roughly rectangular ground plan, consists of one storey and is covered by a composite hipped gabled roof with glazed pantile. Three roof dormers stand against the shield on the street side. The ridge is fitted with three chimneys and roof finials.
The brick facades are provided with bands of pressed brick. The plinth and frieze are rendered, the top gable above the shop front is partly clad with timber and furnished with a casement window with side and fanlights. The facade has an asymmetrical layout. The eastern part of the building is occupied by a semi-detached dwelling, the western by the shop with storage. The dwelling has a facade with successively a T-sash window, a panelled door with hexagonal light, a T-sash window, another panelled door and finally two T-sash windows. All T-sash windows have coloured glass in the lower panes and a divided fanlight.
The right part of the front facade is occupied by the shop front, consisting of a wide symmetrical display with recessed door, flanked by display windows under iron lintel with rosettes. The fanlights of the display window are furnished with leaded glass.
Beside the front door a facade stone with similar inscription as that on the top gable: "Anno / 1914 / heirs A. Verbruggen".
In the porch of the shop front a mosaic floor with the initials A. and V. In front of the shop stands a Norway maple with a circumference of ca. 3 metres, possibly dating from the construction period of the property. The interior still has roughly the original layout.
Valuation
The shop is of general importance. The property has cultural-historical importance as an example of socio-economic development, in particular the growth of retail trade in the countryside. It is also of importance as an example of the typological development of the shop-dwelling. It has architectural-historical importance because of the style and detailing, which applies contemporary motifs, derived from urban architecture, to enhance the sales appeal, and is also of importance because of the distinctive use of materials. The shop-dwelling has been well preserved.
