Inleiding
Vier aan de Damzijde en twee aan de Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwalzijde van het Paleis in 1844 geplaatste en van gietijzer vervaardigde LANTAARNS naar een ontwerp van M.G. Tetar van Elven. Op bevel en op kosten van Zijne Majesteit Willem I. De lantaarns werden gegoten bij Dixon & Co. te Amsterdam.
Omschrijving
Op een hoge driehoekvormige sokkel geplaatste decoratief vormgegeven schacht met daarop de eigenlijke zeskantige lantaarn bekroond door een koningskroon. De decoratieve sokkel heeft concaafvormige zijden en wordt aan de bovenzijde afgedekt door drie gevleugelde leeuwen. Op de voet van de sokkel staan de namen van de ontwerper, het jaartal en de gieterij vermeld.
Waardering
Zes lantaarns aan voor- en achterzijde van het Paleis op de Dam van algemeen belang vanwege de architectuurhistorische waarden vanwege de hoge kwaliteit van de vormgeving alsmede van stedenbouwkundig belang in relatie met het Paleis op de Dam.

Six LANTERNS made of cast iron and placed in 1844 on the Dam side of the Palace (four) and on the Nieuwe Zijds Voorburgwal side (two), designed by M.G. Tetar van Elven. By order and at the expense of His Majesty William I. The lanterns were cast at Dixon & Co. in Amsterdam.
Description
Decorative shaft mounted on a high triangular pedestal, topped by the actual hexagonal lantern crowned by a crown. The decorative pedestal has concave sides and is capped at the top by three winged lions. The names of the designer, the date and the foundry are inscribed on the foot of the pedestal.
Valuation
Six lanterns on the front and rear sides of the Palace on the Dam of general importance due to architectural-historical values because of the high quality of the design, as well as of urban design importance in relation to the Palace on the Dam.
