Inleiding
In 1913-14 aan de noordzijde van het vm. Binnengasthuisterrein opgetrokken ADMINISTRATIEGEBOUW naar een ontwerp van J.M. van der Mey in Vroeg Amsterdamse School-stijl in opdracht van het bestuur van het Binnengasthuis.
N.B. In oorsprong bestond het bouwwerk uit een noordelijk gelegen bouwdeel, het Administratiegebouw, en een zuidelijk gelegen bouwdeel, de Kinderkliniek, met op het scharnierpunt van deze twee vleugels een trappehuis. De Kinderkliniek werd echter in het voorjaar van 1991 in opdracht van de Universiteit van Amsterdam gesloopt. In de plaats daarvan verrees nieuwbouw.
Omschrijving
Op een rechthoekig grondplan tot stand gekomen bakstenen bouwwerk bestaande uit drie bouwlagen en onder een schilddak met zwarte pannen. Gevel Grimburgwal. Het schilddak zit deels verscholen achter een borstwering. De middelste drie vensterassen worden afgesloten door een top met een sculptuur van een zuigeling waarboven de inscriptie SPQA. Rechthoekige vensters. De twee buitenste en afgeschuinde traveeën hebben slechts twee bouwlagen met bovenliggend (thans overdekt) balkon en zijn enigszins teruggezet. De vensters staan dicht bij elkaar en zijn regelmatig geplaatst. De gevel is verder voorzien van gekanteld en ander decoratief metselwerk en de toepassing van eveneens decoratief aangebrachte lichtkleurige steen.
De entree aan de korte gevel aan de Binnengasthuisstraat heeft een uit hout gesneden toegangsdeur met een daarboven geplaatst uitkragend en onderverdeeld bovenlicht aan de bovenzijde voorzien van een hardstenen fronton. Ook hier het gebruik van decoratief metselwerk. Dit geld ook voor de andere korte gevelzijde.
Achterzijde is deels vernieuwd (links). Aan de rechterzijde een teruggeplaatst bouwdeel onder een plat dak. Het risalerende en deels vernieuwde bouwdeel toont een afgeronde hoek. In de afgeronde hoek per twee en per drie gekoppelde vensters met glas-in-lood bovenlichten.
Waardering
Voormalig administratiegebouw van algemeen belang vanwege cultuurhistorische en architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege zijn plaats in het ouevre van Van der Mey. Tevens van belang als onderdeel van het complex Binnengasthuis.

In 1913-14 an ADMINISTRATIVE BUILDING was erected on the north side of the former Binnengasthuis grounds to a design by J.M. van der Mey in Early Amsterdam School style on commission of the board of the Binnengasthuis.
N.B. Originally the building comprised a northern building section, the Administrative Building, and a southern building section, the Children's Clinic, with a stairwell at the junction point of these two wings. The Children's Clinic was however demolished in spring 1991 on commission of the University of Amsterdam. New construction rose in its place.
Description
A brick building erected on a rectangular ground plan consisting of three storeys and covered by a hipped roof with black tiles. Gable on Grimburgwal. The hipped roof is partly concealed behind a parapet. The middle three window bays are closed off by a top with a sculpture of an infant above which the inscription SPQA. Rectangular windows. The two outermost and bevelled bays have only two storeys with an overlying (now covered) balcony and are somewhat set back. The windows are placed close together and arranged regularly. The gable is further provided with tilted and other decorative brickwork and the application of likewise decoratively placed light-coloured stone.
The entrance at the short gable on Binnengasthuisstraat has a wooden carved entrance door with an overhanging and subdivided fanlight placed above it, provided at the top with a hard stone pediment. Also here the use of decorative brickwork. This applies to the other short gable side as well.
The rear is partly renewed (on the left). On the right side a set back building component under a flat roof. The projecting and partly renewed building component shows a rounded corner. In the rounded corner windows coupled per two and per three with stained glass fanlights.
Valuation
Former administrative building of general importance for its cultural-historical and architectural-historical value for its place in the oeuvre of Van der Mey. Also of importance as part of the Binnengasthuis complex.
