Inleiding
VIJVER, de zogenaamde 'Artisvijver', met een tweetal identieke kleine BRUGGEN(15), onderdeel van het Artiscomplex. De vijver is een restant van de in 1866 vergraven Nieuwe Prinsengracht, die Artis aanvankelijk in tweeën deelde. Vóór de gedeeltelijke aanplemping en vergraving van dit deel van de gracht bestond er een klein veer om de Artisgangers over te zetten. De vijver ligt in het westelijke deel van het park en strekt zich over nagenoeg de gehele breedte uit.
Omschrijving De gracht is vergraven tot een soort slingervijver met twee aanmerkelijke versmallingen op het punt waar zich de bruggen bevinden. In het midden van de vijver bevindt zich een klein rond eiland. De gietijzeren bruggen zijn beide in 1866 vervaardigd door de Amsterdamse ijzergieterij J. Zimmer en Zn. Beide zijn van het type vaste plaatbrug. De hoofden hebben een deels gemetselde en deels uit natuursteen opgebouwde ondersteuning. Op de hoofden de uiteinden van de draagconstructie. IJzeren balken met lichte profilering en noppen; de balken hebben een lichte toging aan de onderzijde. Op de vier hoeken van de bruggen bevinden zich gietijzeren rechthoekige posten met halfronde afsluiting met floraal geometrisch ornament. Verdere profilering. POND, the so-called 'Artis Pond', with a pair of identical small BRIDGES (15), component of the Artis complex.
