Inleiding
WINDMOTOR "De Hercules", gebouwd in 1922 ten behoeve van de Kalverpolder en thans nog als zodanig in gebruik. De windmotor staat aan de oostelijke Ringdijk van de Kalverpolder.
Omschrijving
De windmotor bestaat uit een betonnen fundering met vijzelkom en vijzel, alsmede een stalen constructie die het motorlichaam en het windrad draagt. Het motorlichaam bestaat uit een windrad met 30 wieken, gedragen door tien armen die op de naaf van het rad gemonteerd zijn. Behalve een windrad bestaat het motorlichaam uit een betrekkelijk brede hoofdvaan, alsmede een zijvaan waarmee de stand van de molen door middel van spankettingen aan de windsnelheid wordt aangepast.
De toren die het motorlichaam draagt is geconstrueerd uit vier stalen stijlen met hoekprofiel, die in de top samenkomen. De toren is met horizontale en diagonale dwarsverbindingen gestijfd. Met name de bovenste helft van de constructie is van horizontale verbindingen voorzien.
