Inleiding
Aan St. Bonifatius gewijd rooms-katholiek KERKGEBOUW in 1899-1900 gebouwd naar ontwerp van A.A. Margry en J.M. Snickers, hoofdonderdeel van het kerkcomplex "St. Bonifatius".
Omschrijving
Mitterreither in 1786.

Description
Introduction
Roman Catholic CHURCH BUILDING dedicated to St. Bonifatius, built in 1899-1900 after designs by A.A. Margry and J.M. Snickers, principal component of the church complex "St. Bonifatius".
Description
Oriented three-aisled cruciform basilica on heavy Amsterdam foundation with relieving arches. The nave is covered with a gabled roof, the side aisles with lean-to roofs. In the west facade a tower is incorporated on a rectangular ground plan with octagonal staircase turrets on either side and a crown in the form of a tall and steep octagonal spire. The church is built in grey brick in cross bond. Round windows and doors and in decorative bands different profiled bricks are used. The pilaster stones in the front facade are executed in natural stone, as are the rose windows in the front facade and the transept arms. Natural stone is applied in the lesenes, pinnacles, facade cornices and in bands in the facade. The roof is covered with slates in Rhine laying and provided with a number of small roof dormers.
The front (W) of the church is dominated by the broad base of the tower. This has a very steep octagonal spire with sound holes and clock faces in roof dormers on four sides. On the north and south sides of the tower a small abutment. On the ground floor between the octagonal staircase turrets is a portal in which a heavy wooden double door with a large fanlight with trefoil arches and rose windows. The door is furnished with curved wrought-iron hinges. Above the portal a large window with coupled pointed arches and a large rose window in the arch field. The octagonal staircase turrets are crowned with octagonal spires. The walls of the turrets have vertically offset windows. To the left of the entrance is a 3/8 baptismal chapel attached to the church. Above this are two bifore windows. In the facade to the right of the tower is a second, simpler portal. Above this are two bifore windows.
The side facades of the church are determined by the transept arms in which on the ground floor a double wooden door is placed with a large window above it, in which four pointed arch windows and a large rose window are incorporated. The facades of the side aisles have per bay a pointed arch window. In the clerestory there are also pointed arch windows. The apses have on all sides a pointed arch window, the outbuildings such as the sacristy have sash windows under a curved lintel.
Behind the central apse is the former boiler room in which a workshop is now housed. The southern extension houses the sacristy. This space is also accessible via a long corridor running along the church and accessible from the intermediate section between the church and the rectory. In the sacristy are a number of original cabinets, as well as the safe. In the floor of this space is the entrance to the cellar below the choir.
The interior with fixed furnishings and tile floor is virtually entirely original. Against the west facade above the main entrance is a platform with a two-manual organ with 16 stops made by J.J. Mitterreither in 1786. This is followed by four bays up to the transept, which has no side aisles and barely projects beyond the nave. The choir consists of two bays and is closed by a 7/12 apse in the central nave and a 5/8 apse in each side aisle. The 7/12 apse has on five planes stained glass referring to the life of Bonifatius. The polychromed wooden barrel vault of nave and transept is, with the cross-rib vaults in the side aisles, supported by plastered brick bundle pillars with natural stone capitals. Between the arcade arches and the clerestory is the triforium with above it, separated by a decorative band, the windows. In the southeastern corner of the crossing stands a wooden pulpit (placed in 1923). In the northwestern corner of the church, directly to the left of the main entrance, is the aforementioned baptismal chapel, provided with partly copper baptismal font and tilework (circa 1923). The three apses each have an altar from the workshops of Margry and Snickers in Rotterdam, executed with a marble base and richly decorated wooden superstructure. The high altar is flanked by a Mary altar on the north side and a Joseph altar on the south side. The choir is separated from the nave by marble communion rails.
Valuation
The St. Bonifatius Church is of general importance due to architectural and cultural-historical value as a historically-functional principal component of the church complex "St. Bonifatius" and as a well-preserved church building in Neo-Gothic style after designs by A.A. Margry and J.M. Snickers.
