Inleiding
HOTEL-CAFé Schafrath is omstreeks 1895 als hotel gebouwd in Ambachtelijk Traditionele trant. Het blokvormige pand is gelegen aan Park en vanaf het terras op de veranda heeft men uitzicht over het park. Omstreeks 1975 heeft men de haakse achterbouw vervangen door nieuwbouw, die buiten de bescherming valt. In die tijd zijn ook enkele wijzigingen aan de veranda doorgevoerd.
Omschrijving
Het eenlaags pand heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en een geknikt zadeldak, belegd met tuile-du-Nord pannen en aan de voorzijde voorzien van vier houten dakkapellen. De voorgevel van het hotel, zoals alle gevels opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen met een gepleisterde plint, ligt parallel aan Park en is over de gehele breedte voorzien van een houten veranda. In het metselwerk zijn een drietal lisenen opgenomen, de gevel heeft smeedijzeren sierankers en wordt aan de bovenzijde afgesloten door een gestuct fries. Alle gevels zijn witgeschilderd. De voorgevel telt vijf assen. Rechts van het midden bevindt zich een deels vernieuwde paneelvleugeldeur met dubbel bovenlicht. De vier vensters zijn voorzien van getoogde zesruits schuiframen. De luifel van de veranda rust op houten kolommen, die gesteld staan op gepleisterde en beschilderde poeren. De noordelijke zijde is afgesloten met houten panelen. Aan de zuidelijke zijde is deze wand deels geopend. De geschulpte sierlijst is vernieuwd. Het interieur heeft nog gedeeltelijk de oorspronkelijke indeling en is voorzien van een ca. 1,75 meter hoge houten lambrizering uit omstreeks 1950. Aan de achterzijde geeft het café toegang tot de vernieuwde achteraanbouw.
Waardering
Het hotel annex café is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van het Brabantse platteland, het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het dorpshotel met veranda. Het is van belang vanwege de architectonische gaafheid van het uiterst eenvoudig gedetailleerde exterieur. Het heeft ensemblewaarden vanwege de markante ligging en de samenhang met de overige bebouwing binnen het park. Het is van belang als zeldzaam voorbeeld van een gaaf en uiterst eenvoudig gedetailleerd dorpshotel.

HOTEL-CAFÉ Schafrath was built around 1895 as a hotel in Craftsmanlike Traditional style. The block-shaped building is located on Park and from the terrace on the veranda one has a view over the park. Around 1975 the perpendicular rear extension was replaced by new construction, which falls outside the protection. At that time some alterations were also made to the veranda.
Description
The single-storey building has a rectangular floor plan and a bent gabled roof, covered with tuile-du-Nord tiles and furnished on the front with four wooden roof dormers. The front facade of the hotel, like all facades constructed of machine-made brick with a plastered plinth, runs parallel to Park and is provided over its entire width with a wooden veranda. Three pilasters are incorporated in the masonry; the facade has wrought-iron ornamental wall anchors and is closed at the top by a stuccoed frieze. All facades are painted white. The front facade has five bays. To the right of centre is a partly renewed panelled wing door with double fanlight. The four windows are provided with arched six-pane sash windows. The awning of the veranda rests on wooden columns, which are set on plastered and painted bases. The northern side is closed with wooden panels. On the southern side this wall is partly open. The moulded decorative cornice has been renewed. The interior still retains part of the original layout and is fitted with approximately 1.75 metre high wooden wainscoting from around 1950. At the rear, the café provides access to the renewed rear extension.

The hotel annex café is of general interest. It has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of the development of the Brabant countryside, and is also of interest as an example of the typological development of the village hotel with veranda.
