Inleiding
Direct ten oosten van de R.K. pastorie van de Sint Lambertuskerk staat aan de Hoekstraat 42 de voormalige R.K.DORPSSCHOOL, tegenwoordig in gebruik als woonhuis met kantoor. Het gebouw dateert uit 1927 en heeft in de bouwstijl elementen van de Amsterdamse School. Tijdens een verbouwing omstreeks 1980 zijn de oorspronkelijke voordeuren verwijderd en heeft men tegen de oostelijke gevel een carport gebouwd. Tevens is de zolderverdieping door de bouw van twee dakkapellen bewoonbaar gemaakt.
Omschrijving
Het eenlaags gebouw heeft een rechthoekige plattegrond en een zadeldak, belegd met tuile-du-Nord pannen. De bakstenen gevels hebben vlechtingen. De opzet van het gebouw is symmetrisch: aan weerszijden van de centrale hal, die in de voorgevel benadrukt wordt door een hoge, iets risalerende en over de volle breedte van de hal opgetrokken topgevel, ligt een klaslokaal. Deze lokalen hebben in de (zuidelijke) straatgevel een breed en hoog samengesteld venster met openslaande ramen. In de middenrisaliet is onder een kunststenen luifel de (vernieuwde) voordeurpartij aangebracht. Boven de luifel is een gedeeld bovenlicht. Via een drietal kleine lichten in de zijgevels wordt de zolderverdieping verlicht.
De twee oorspronkelijke deuren, met horizontale roedenverdeling in de lichten, zijn in de zuidelijke zijgevel geplaatst.
Waardering
De school is van algemeen belang. Het pand heeft cultuurhistorisch belang als voorbeeld van een culturele en geestelijke ontwikkeling, namelijk de ontwikkeling van het katholiek onderwijs in het interbellum. Het is tevens van belang als voorbeeld van de typologische ontwikkeling van het schoolgebouw. Architectuurhistorisch is het belangrijk vanwege de stijl en de detaillering, als regionale variant van de Amsterdamse School. Introduction
Direct east of the R.C. rectory of Sint Lambertuskerk stands at Hoekstraat 42 the former R.C. VILLAGE SCHOOL, now in use as a dwelling with office. The building dates from 1927 and has elements of the Amsterdam School in its architectural style. During a renovation around 1980, the original front doors were removed and a carport was built against the eastern facade. The attic storey was also made habitable by the construction of two roof dormers.
Description
The single-storey building has a rectangular floor plan and a gabled roof, covered with tuile-du-Nord tiles. The brick facades have basketweave patterns. The arrangement of the building is symmetrical: on either side of the central hall, which is emphasised in the front facade by a tall, slightly projecting gable facade running the full width of the hall, lies a classroom. These rooms have in the (southern) street facade a broad and tall composite window with casement windows. In the central risalien is the (renewed) front door section placed beneath a stone canopy.
