The register's description

Inleiding

Vrijstaande uilentoren gesitueerd temidden van de bossen op het landgoed De Bedelaar. Op het landgoed De Bedelaar woonde en werkte de paleontoloog Prof. E. Dubois tussen 1906 en 1940. Hij voerde op het landgoed experimenten uit op het terrein van de natuurontwikkeling. In dit kader werd in 1937 een uilentoren gebouwd. De toegepaste bouwstijl is traditionalistisch.

Omschrijving

Vrijstaande uilentoren op een vierkante plattegrond. Het toegepaste bouwmateriaal is baksteen. Metselwerk in kruisverband. De vierkante plattegrond meet ongeveer 5 bij 5 meter. De toren is ongeveer 15 meter hoog en wordt afgedekt met een tentdak met leien. In elk dakvlak een dakkapel. Rechthoekige ijzeren vensters. Rondboogvormige deuropening werd dichtgezet met betonstenen. Aan de bovenzijde van de deuropening een gevelsteen met het jaartal 1937. In het benedendeel van de toren diverse smalle openingen. In het bovenste deel van de toren in elk gevelvlak een rechthoekig ijzeren vensterkozijn met kleine roedeverdeling.

Onder de dakrand een horizontale reeks kleine openingen.

Waardering

De uilentoren bezit cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling en in het kader van de vroegere functie ten behoeve van de experimenten van de paleontoloog prof. Dubois. Architectuurhistorische waarde bezit de uilentoren vanwege het belang voor de bovenregionale geschiedenis van de architectuur. De uilentoren bezit historisch-wetenschappelijke waarde en wegens de situering in een bosrijk gebied ook historische belevingswaarde. De uilentoren is tenslotte van algemeen belang vanwege de redelijke mate van architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en de architectuurhistorische en typologische zeldzaamheid.

Round-arched door opening was filled in with concrete blocks. At the top of the door opening a foundation stone with the year 1937. In the lower part of the tower various narrow openings. In the upper part of the tower in each gable plane a rectangular iron window frame with small glazing bars.

Under the eaves a horizontal row of small openings.

The owl tower possesses cultural-historical value as a particular expression of a typological development and within the framework of the former function for the purpose of the experiments of the paleontologist Prof. Dubois.
