Inleiding
BOVENMEESTERWONING, oorspronkelijk gelegen naast de Antoniusschool, is genaamd Villa Cantemerle, voorheen Villa Nova. Het pand is gebouwd in 1910 in traditionalistische stijl met lichte invloeden van de Chaletstijl. Gebouwd naar ontwerp van architekt N. Ramakers sr. in opdracht van dhr. S. Bemelmans, hoofd van de school. Tussen de woonkamer en de gang is een extra raam geplaatst en een tweede deur naar de woonkamer is verwijderd. De garage achter de woning, gebouwd in 1963 is UITGESLOTEN van bescherming.
Omschrijving
De BOVENMEESTERSWONING heeft twee bouwlagen onder een afgeplat tentdak met blauwe muldenpannen. Het pand met hoofdzakelijk vierkante plattegrond, is gedeeltelijk onderkelderd. Aan de achtergevel een uitbouw van één bouwlaag met een zadeldak. De gevels hebben een donkere geprofileerde plint, waarboven donker- en grauw bruinmetselwerk in kruisverband met gele speklagen en oorspronkelijk gestoken voeg. De gevels eindigen met bloktanddecoraties waarboven grote houten consoles met een bakgoot. In de gevels rechthoekige en ronde houten kozijnen en balkankers. Enkele vensters hebben authentieke houten rolluiken.
De VOORGEVEL, aan de zuidzijde is asymmetrisch van opbouw, heeft vier traveeën, waarvan de twee rechter in een vooruitspringend geveldeel. Deze gevel bevat per bouwlaag twee rechthoekige houten tweedelige kozijnen met dubbele glas-in-lood bovenlichten in een segmentboogvormige lijst. De vulstukken hebben vlechtingen. Dit geveldeel eindigt in een topgevel met twee rechthoekige kozijnen, waarboven een houten beschot en op zadeldak een naald. De twee linker traveeën hebben een gelijke vensterverdeling, een entree in de oksel van de uitsprong met erboven een balkon. De entree heeft een houten deur met een venster, met roedeverdeling en beslag, een verticaal geleed, twee ruits bovenlicht met glas-in-lood en een hardstenen dorpel. De entree is bereikbaar via een baksteen verhoging met rooster. Links ervan een brievenbus in natuursteen. Het balkon vormt een segmentvormige boog boven de entree en wordt aan één zijde gesteund door een witgepleisterde stenen console. De hoek van het balkon loopt door in een gemetselde kolom met witgeschilderde, half cylindrische afdeksteen. In het dakvlak boven dit geveldeel een dakkapel met dakschild en op de ontmoeting met het linkerdakvlak een nokpion.
De LINKER ZIJGEVEL, westzijde, heeft twee traveeën, waarvan de rechter travee bestaat uit drie kleinere traveeën. Deze travee heeft in de eerste bouwlaag drie kleine houten vensters van verschillende afmetingen met gekleurd glas-in-lood. De twee buitenste vensters zijn rechthoekig, het middelste is ovaal en hoger gelegen, hieronder is een houten dienstdeur. Onder het rechter venster nog een klein venster in een verdiepte lijst. Boven de vensters een segmentboogvormige rollaag in het vlak van de gevel. In de tweede laag van dit travee liggen drie rechthoekige houten vensters van verschillende afmeting met gekleurd glas-in-lood in verdiepte segmentboogvormige lijst. Het middelste venster ligt hoger en tussen de consoles onder de goot. Het linker travee heeft in elke laag een kozijn, als in de voorgevel van het pand. In het verlengde van de linkerzijgevel ligt een uitbouw van één laag met een zadeldak. Deze gevel heeft een kozijn met roedeverdeling en twee kleine rechthoekige vensters en minder speklagen.
In de ACHTERGEVEL VAN DE LAAGBOUW, noordzijde, is een kleine houten deur waarboven een houten luik, beide in verdiepte segmentboogvormige lijsten.
De RECHTER ZIJGEVEL VAN DE LAAGBOUW, oostzijde, heeft twee rechthoekige houten kozijnen en een houten deur in verdiept segmentboogvormige lijst. Ter plaatse van de nok van de laagbouw ligt een schoorsteen op de achtergevel van het hoofdvolume en loopt door de bakgoot omhoog. De laagbouw sluit rechts loodrecht aan op de achtergevel van het pand. De ACHTERGEVEL VAN HET HOOFDVOLUME, oostzijde, heeft links heeft per laag twee houten tweedelige kozijnen met bovenlicht.
De RECHTERZIJGEVEL (oost) is geheel blind en heeft symmetrisch twee op de gevel liggende schoorstenen, met aan de onderzijde een boog.
Het perceel heeft langs de weg een ERFSCHEIDING van een lage baksteenmuur, metselwerk in kruisverband met ezelsrug en kolommen met sleutelgatvormige witgepleisterde siersteen met reliëf. Voorheen voorzien van een hekwerk. Achter de afscheiding een opgang van drie treden in baksteen.
De structuur van het INTERIEUR is in hoge mate gaaf. WAARDEVOLLE INTERIEURONDERDELEN zijn onder meer de gang met meerkleurige tegelvloer, imposant trappenhuis en gangboog, binnendeuren in decoratieve kozijnlijsten en paneeldeuren met getint glas-in-lood, achter panelen.
Waardering
De voormalige bovenmeesterswoning bezit cultuurhistorische waarden vanwege de oorspronkelijke bestemming en als uitdrukking van een typologische ontwikkeling. De woning geeft uitdrukking aan de opwaardering van de sociale positie van de bovenmeester in de bouwperiode, dat wil zeggen onmiddellijk na de afloop van de schoolstrijd. De architectuurhistorische waarden worden bepaald door het belang voor het oeuvre van de architect N. The HEADMASTER'S RESIDENCE has two storeys beneath a flattened hipped roof with blue curved tiles. The building with predominantly square floor plan is partially cellared. At the rear façade an extension of one storey with a gabled roof. The façades have a dark profiled plinth, above which dark and greyish-brown brickwork in Flemish bond with yellow mortar courses and originally struck joints. The façades terminate with dentil decoration above which large wooden consoles with a gutter. In the façades rectangular and round wooden windows and wall anchors (ornamental). Some windows have authentic wooden shutters.
The FRONT FAÇADE, on the south side is asymmetrical in composition, has four bays, of which the two right ones in a projecting façade section. This façade contains per storey two rectangular wooden two-part windows with double leaded glass fanlights in a segmental arch moulding. The infill pieces have woven patterns. This façade section terminates in a gable with two rectangular windows, above which wooden boarding and on a gabled roof a spire. The two left bays have an equal window arrangement, an entrance in the angle of the projection with above it a balcony. The entrance has a wooden door with a window, with glazing bars and fittings, a vertically articulated two-pane leaded glass fanlight and a hardstone threshold. The entrance is accessible via a brick elevation with grille. To the left of it a letterbox in natural stone. The balcony forms a segmental arch above the entrance and is supported on one side by a whitewashed stone console. The corner of the balcony continues into a mortared column with whitewashed, half-cylindrical coping stone. In the roof plane above this façade section a roof dormer with roof shield and at the junction with the left roof plane a roof finial.
The LEFT SIDE FAÇADE, west side, has two bays, of which the right bay consists of three smaller bays. This bay has in the first storey three small wooden windows of different sizes with coloured leaded glass. The two outer windows are rectangular, the middle one is oval and positioned higher, below it is a wooden service door. Below the right window another small window in a recessed list. Above the windows a segmental arch roll in the plane of the façade. In the second storey of this bay are three rectangular wooden windows of different size with coloured leaded glass in recessed segmental arch list. The middle window is positioned higher and between the consoles below the gutter. The left bay has in each storey a window, as in the front façade of the building. In the continuation of the left side façade lies an extension of one storey with a gabled roof. This façade has a window with glazing bars and two small rectangular windows and fewer mortar courses.
In the REAR FAÇADE OF THE LOW BUILDING, north side, is a small wooden door above which a wooden shutter, both in recessed segmental arch mouldings.
The RIGHT SIDE FAÇADE OF THE LOW BUILDING, east side, has two rectangular wooden windows and a wooden door in recessed segmental arch list. At the position of the ridge of the low building lies a chimney on the rear façade of the main volume and rises through the gutter. The low building adjoins perpendicularly on the right to the rear façade of the building. The REAR FAÇADE OF THE MAIN VOLUME, east side, has on the left per storey two wooden two-part windows with fanlight.
