Inleiding

Introduction

Double Stoneysluis, or SLIDE WEIR, placed at right angles in the Beek at the Koppelpoort. The weir was designed in 1909 by the chamberlain W.Chr. Jansen of the Municipality of Amersfoort, commissioned by the Heemraadschap de Eem (etc.). The weir was probably completed in 1910 and 1911, judging by the text of the commemorative stone placed on the west side of the central pier: 'Completed the lock August 1911(3?), Water Master Mr. W.H. de Beaufort, Councillors Mr. A. Royaards van Steenbergen, A. Lagemaat, Joh. Knoppers, H. Butselaar, H.P. van Haselen sec.penm'. The object is still in use, although the mechanism has been modified. Where originally gears and chains transmitted forces, nowadays a sawtooth blade is used which is directly connected to the slide.

Description

Viewed from the water, the Stoneysluis or slide weir consists of two identical parts and is also symmetrical in form for each part. The main materials are brick and natural stone. Brick was used for the pits in which the slides descend, for the abutments of the lock and for the west side of the central pier. Natural stone was applied as facing for the edges of these walls and as a base for the simple metal superstructure, to which the gearing and slides are suspended. Natural stone has also been placed on the pointed east side of the central pier. A two-part metal bridge on the west side of the slides, with simple railings, makes it possible to reach the central pier from both the north and south banks. The rectangular slides are also made of metal. A commemorative stone has been placed on the west side of the central pier. Unfortunately the stone has become illegible.

Valuation

The double Stoneysluis in the Beek at the Koppelpoort is of general importance because of its design value. Of cultural-historical value because of its purpose which is connected with the history of water regulation and as a good example of an object within industrial heritage. The object possesses ensemble value in relation to the surroundings of the Koppelpoort.
