Tot het complex van het voormalig Militair Hospitaal of infirmerie behoort BARAK nummer 5, oorspronkelijk bestemd voor de behandeling van besmettelijke ziekten. Vandaar dat dit gebouw geheel achter op het terrein werd geplaatst.
De barak werd symmetrisch gesitueerd op de lijn die vanaf de poort aan de Hogeweg het hoofdgebouw symmetrisch opdeelt. Na de verbreding van de Hogeweg werd aan de achterzijde van het terrein een nieuwe entree gemaakt. Hierdoor is de barak tot entreegebouw geworden.
De in eclectische stijl vormgegeven barak heeft een in hoofdzaak rechthoekige plattegrond, waarbij de lange zijde evenwijdig is gepositioneerd aan de lange zijde van het hoofdgebouw. Hoekrisalieten bevinden zich aan deze lange zijden. Het gebouw heeft één bouwlaag, dat voorzien is van een samengesteld zadeldak, gedekt met tuile du Nord pannen. De bakstenen gevels zijn horizontaal geleed door bepleisterde stroken in de vorm van een grijze plint, een doorlopende cordonlijst ter hoogte van de onderdorpels en een band ter hoogte van de bovenlichten van de vensters, die de getoogde vorm van deze bovenlichten volgt. Een lijst met bakstenen consoles is aangebracht onder de overstekende goot. De topgevels zijn voorzien van een overstek en witte boeien.
De draaivensters in de voor- en achtergevel zijn identiek aan elkaar en hebben een enkele horizontale roede.
De hoekrisalieten zijn voorzien van hoekpilasters, waarbij de kapiteel gevormd wordt door een cordonlijst. De flauwe helling van de topgevel suggereert een fronton, waarbij het tympaan gedecoreerd is met een bepleisterd en geprofileerd medaillon, dat geflankeerd wordt door eveneens bepleisterde en geprofileerde driehoekige velden.
De symmetrische voorgevel (zuidzijde), die gericht is op het hoofdgebouw, is opgebouwd uit een breed middendeel, bestaande uit drie venstertraveeën, en twee hoekrisalieten, die ieder bestaan uit twee venstertraveeën. De hoekrisalieten zijn voorzien van een topgevel.
De symmetrische achtergevel is identiek aan de voorgevel.
De symmetrische linkerzijgevel is drie traveeën breed en voorzien van een lijstgevel. In de middentravee is een dubbele geprofileerde deur aangebracht, met segmentboogvormig bovenlicht. Drie bakstenen treden overbruggen het hoogteverschil tussen deur en omgeving. De flankerende traveeën bezitten blindvensters.
De symmetrische rechterzijgevel is identiek aan de linkerzijgevel.

BARAK number 5 is part of the complex of the former Military Hospital or infirmary, originally intended for the treatment of contagious diseases. For this reason, this building was placed entirely at the rear of the site.
The barracks was positioned symmetrically on the line that, from the gate on the Hogeweg, divides the main building symmetrically. After the widening of the Hogeweg, a new entrance was created at the rear of the site. This transformed the barracks into an entrance building.
The barracks, designed in eclectic style, has a mainly rectangular floor plan, with the long side positioned parallel to the long side of the main building. Corner risalits are located on these long sides. The building has one storey, furnished with a composite gabled roof, covered with tuile du Nord tiles. The brick facades are articulated horizontally by plastered strips in the form of a grey plinth, a continuous string course at the height of the window sills and a band at the height of the fanlights of the windows, which follows the arched form of these fanlights. A row with brick consoles is placed under the projecting eaves. The gable walls are furnished with overhangs and white ornaments.
The casement windows in the front and rear facade are identical to each other and have a single horizontal glazing bar.
