Inleiding
BANKGEBOUW met inwendig WOONHUIS uit 1937, gelegen in de gesloten gevelwand van de Turfmarkt. Al in 1830 vestigde zich hier aan de Turfmarkt een bank gesticht door de weduwe Knox en Dortland. In 1937 ontwierp architect D. Stuurman een nieuw gebouw aan de Turfmarkt-zijde in Zakelijk Expressionistische stijl. De huidige functie is Verzetsmuseum Zuid-Holland.
N.B. t.b.v. de museumfunctie is het gebouw intern aangepast.
N.B. Het oorspronkelijk volume uit 1937 zijn diverse bouwvolumes toegevoegd, die niet voor rijksbescherming in aanmerking komen.
Omschrijving
Bankgebouw bestaat uit twee bouwlagen en een kapverdieping, met rechts een torenvormig deel, onder een hoge kap met nokrichting parallel aan de rooilijn, gedekt met leien in maasdekking. De voorgevel is opgetrokken in gele baksteen in staand verband en kent een horizontale geleding door middel van natuursteenbanden. De kap loopt ter plaatse van de meest linker travee iets door en sluit dit tweelaagse bouwvolume af met houten overstekende goot. In dit bouwdeel is de ingang naar de woning, voorzien van houten deur met eenvoudige profiellijsten en een bovenlicht boven een uitkragende latei; op de verdieping twee smalle verticale ijzeren vensters met horizontale roeden. De rechter travee van de voorgevel wordt gevormd door een torenvormig drielaags rechtafgesloten bouwdeel afgedekt met gesmoorde vorsten. In dit bouwdeel is de omlijste ingang naar de bank, voorzien van een dubbele houten deure met eenvoudige profiellijsten; op de eerste verdieping een ijzeren enkelruits raam; op de tweede verdieping drie smalle verticale ijzeren vensters met horizontale roeden.
Tussen beide genoemde traveeen een breed bouwdeel op een hoge, horizontaal gelede plint, waarvan de kapverdieping iets terugligt waardoor een balkon ontstaat. Op de begane grond vijf getraliede vensters waartussen siermetselwerk en waarboven een latei die doorloopt boven de ingang van de bank. Op de eerste verdieping twee erkervormige, ijzeren vensters onder een houten luifel. Op het balkon openen drie dubbel deuren.
In het INTERIEUR is houten draaideur vermeldenswaard.
Waardering
Bankgebouw is van algemeen belang vanwege architectuurhistorische en cultuurhistorische waarde, als typologisch voorbeeld van een bankgebouw in Zakelijk Expressionistische stijl.
Bankgebouw heeft stedebouwkundige en situationele waarde als onderdeel van de gesloten gevelwand van de Turfmarkt.
De voorgevel van het bankgebouw is gaaf in vorm en materiaalgebruik.

BANK BUILDING with internal DWELLING HOUSE from 1937, located in the closed facade wall of the Turfmarkt. As early as 1830 a bank founded by the widow Knox and Dortland established itself here at the Turfmarkt. In 1937 architect D. Stuurman designed a new building on the Turfmarkt side in Functionalist Expressionist style. The current function is Resistance Museum South Holland.
N.B. for the museum function the building has been internally adapted.

Description
Bank building consists of two storeys and a roof storey, with on the right a tower-like section, under a high roof with ridge direction parallel to the building line, covered with slates in Maas bond. The front facade is constructed of yellow brick in vertical bond and features horizontal articulation by means of natural stone bands. The roof extends slightly at the location of the leftmost bay and closes off this two-storey building volume with a wooden overhanging gutter. In this building section is the entrance to the dwelling, furnished with a wooden door with simple profile mouldings and a fanlight above a projecting lintel; on the upper storey two narrow vertical iron windows with horizontal glazing bars. The right bay of the front facade is formed by a tower-like three-storey vertically terminated building section covered with double-bond crossing roof tiles. In this building section is the framed entrance to the bank, furnished with a double wooden door with simple profile mouldings; on the first storey an iron single-light window; on the second storey three narrow vertical iron windows with horizontal glazing bars.
Between the two mentioned bays a wide building section on a high, horizontally articulated plinth, of which the roof storey is set back slightly thereby creating a balcony. On the ground floor five barred windows with ornamental brickwork in between and above a lintel that runs above the entrance to the bank. On the first storey two oriel-like iron windows under a wooden canopy. On the balcony three double doors open out.
In the INTERIOR a wooden revolving door is noteworthy.
Valuation
Bank building is of general importance for its architectural-historical and cultural-historical value, as a typological example of a bank building in Functionalist Expressionist style.
Bank building has town-planning and situational value as part of the closed facade wall of the Turfmarkt.
The front facade of the bank building is intact in form and material use.
