Inleiding
Het WOONHUIS uit 1898 gebouwd in Eclectische stijl naar ontwerp van architect H.J. Nederhorst maakt deel uit van complex van twee blokken woningen aan het Regentesseplantsoen, aan de binnenzijde van de singel van Gouda. Het woonhuis met huisnummer 31 was oorpsronkelijk bedoeld voor eigen bewoning.
Het Regentesseplantsoen heette bij de bouw kattensingelplantsoen. Na een bezoek van regentesse Emma kreeg het plantsoen zijn huidige naam.
Omschrijving
Het woonhuisblok, dat drie woningen bevat, is elf traveeën breed en bestaat uit twee bouwlagen met zolderverdieping, onder een afgeplat schilddak bedekt met rode Hollandse pannen; boven de voorgevel dakkapellen; steekkap boven topgevel. Pand opgetrokken in rode baksteen in kruisverband. Voorgevel gedecoreerd met hardstenen plint en kunststenen speklagen, diamantkoppen, aanzet- en sluitstenen in bogen boven vensters op verdieping. Rechter zijgevel gepleisterd. Tegen deze zijgevel op de op de begane grond een eenlaags bedrijfsgedeelte; houtskelet met overstekende dakgoot en decoratieve klossen terhoogte van de verticale stijlen, plat dak.
De symmetrisch ingedeelde voorgevel heeft een verspringende rooilijn t.g.v. vier risalerende geveldelen: uiterst links een risalerend geveldeel van een travee met topgevel onder overstekend zadeldak met decoratief houten hangwerk; volgend risalerende geveldeel (derde en vierde travee) afgesloten met overstekende houten goot op klossen; het daarna volgende risalerende geveldeel (zevende travee) is voorzien van een trapgevel en tenslotte uiterst rechts een risalerend geveldeel van twee traveeën dat afgesloten wordt met houten overstekende goot op klossen.Oorspronkelijk voorzien van schuiframen met roedenverdeling in bovenlichten; sommige ramen gekoppeld met bewerkte houten tussenstijlen. Houten deuren met rooster.
INTERIEUR Het woonhuis met huisnummer 31 heeft nog enkele interieuronderdelen als stucplafonds en geetst glas.

Het woonhuis Regentesseplantsoen 30 - 32 is van algemeen belang vanwege architectuurhistorische, cultuurhistorische, stedenbouwkundige waarde:

Introduction
The DWELLING HOUSE built in 1898 in Eclectic style designed by architect H.J. Nederhorst forms part of a complex of two blocks of houses on the Regentesseplantsoen, on the inner side of the canal ring of Gouda. The dwelling house with house number 31 was originally intended for the architect's own residence.
The Regentesseplantsoen was called kattensingelplantsoen at the time of construction. After a visit by regent Emma, the plantsoen received its current name.
Description
The dwelling house block, containing three houses, is eleven bays wide and consists of two storeys with an attic storey, under a hipped roof covered with red Dutch tiles; above the front facade dormer windows; gabled roof above the gable. Building constructed in red brick in cross bond. Front facade decorated with sandstone plinth and artificial stone striping, diamond tooled stones, jamb and key stones in arches above windows on the storey. Right side facade rendered. Against this side facade on the ground floor a single-storey business section; timber frame with overhanging roof gutter and decorative brackets at the height of the vertical posts, flat roof.
The symmetrically arranged front facade has a stepped roofline due to four projecting facade sections: at the far left a projecting facade section of one bay with a gable under overhanging saddle roof with decorative wooden ornamental work; the next projecting facade section (third and fourth bays) closed off with overhanging wooden gutter on brackets; the next projecting facade section (seventh bay) is provided with a stepped gable and finally at the far right a projecting facade section of two bays that is closed off with wooden overhanging gutter on brackets. Originally provided with sash windows with glazing bars in fanlights; some windows coupled with carved wooden mullions. Wooden doors with grille.
INTERIOR The dwelling house with house number 31 still has some interior components such as stucco ceilings and etched glass.
