Inleiding
WATERTOREN uit 1917, gebouwd in opdracht van de gemeente Roosendaal naar ontwerp van H.P.N. Halbertsma, uitgevoerd door de Maatschappij tot Bouw en Exploitatie van Gemeentebedrijven. Het object heeft elementen van zakelijkheid en Neo-Renaissance.
Omschrijving
De toren is circa 52 meter hoog en heeft een achtkantige, vier geledingen tellende schacht met uitkragend reservoir, bekroond door een spits. De toren heeft een betonskelet. De begane grond is gepleisterd en heeft een uitstekende plint. De geledingen zijn opgevuld met baksteen. Het metselwerk ligt verdiept ten opzichte van het vakwerk. De bovenste geleding wordt afgesloten door segmentbogen. Het ronde uitkragende waterreservoir is eveneens uitgevoerd in beton met inwendig een betonnen vlakbodemreservoir met een inhoud van 300 m3. De toren wordt bekroond door een koperen spits met piron.
Op de begane grond leidt een trap naar de houten deur in een monumentale gepleisterde omlijsting met pilasters en een gebogen fronton. In het boogveld is een wapenschild aangebracht, op de latei daaronder is het opschrift ANNO/WATERTOREN/1916 aangebracht. In de schuine onderrand van het reservoir zijn kleine ronde openingen zichtbaar. Het reservoir zelf heeft smalle staande ramen. De bovenzijde heeft een fries met kantelen, geprofileerde randen vormen de overgang naat het dak. In het dakvlak zijn vier dakkapelletjes met gebogen fronton geplaatst.
Waardering
De watertoren is van algemeen belang vanwege zijn cultuurhistorische waarden alsmede als uitdrukking van een technische en typologische ontwikkeling. Hij is tevens van architectuurhistorisch belang vanwege vormgeving en materiaalgebruik.

The tower is approximately 52 metres high and has an octagonal shaft with four stages and a projecting reservoir, crowned by a spire. The tower has a concrete skeleton. The ground floor is plastered and has a projecting plinth. The stages are filled with brick. The masonry is recessed relative to the framework. The uppermost stage is closed off by segmental arches. The round projecting water reservoir is likewise executed in concrete with internally a concrete flat-bottomed reservoir with a capacity of 300 m³.
