Inleiding.
Het voormalige PAKHUIS werd gebouwd in 1901 in opdracht van G. Penders. Stilistisch vertoont het pand kenmerken van de Neo-Renaissance. Inwendig zijn er sporen van een veel oudere houtskeletconstructie aanwezig. Heden is het pand in gebruik als winkel.
Omschrijving.
Het tweelaagse onderkelderde vroegere pakhuis met tuitgevel heeft een zadeldak met zwarte oudhollandse pannen, waarvan de nokas diagonaal meeloopt met het oude stratenpatroon. De voorgevel is opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen met gepleisterde plint, speklagen en een waterlijst. De vernieuwde deur bevindt zich centraal onder een segmentboog met aanzetstenen en een sluitsteen met diamantkop. Aan weerskanten bevinden zich kleine rechthoekige ramen met gietijzeren roosters. Boven de entree bevindt zich een getoogde laaddeur waarvan de twee ramen zijn afgewerkt met gietijzeren roosters, het houtwerk is voorzien van afschuiningen. Aan weerskanten hiervan een grote staande diamantkop. Boven de sluitsteen is er een gevelsteen met het jaartal 1901, tenslotte een rondboograam in een rondboognis met sluitsteen. De rest van de tuitgevel is voorzien van een klimmend fries met geprofileerde kraagstenen. De tuit wordt bekroond door een obelisk.
Waardering.
Het voormalige pakhuis is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een sociaal-economische ontwikkeling. Het heeft architectuurhistorische waarde vanwege de gecompliceerde bouwgeschiedenis, de gaafheid van het exterieur en de archaïserende vormgeving. The two-storey undercellared former warehouse with a spout gable has a saddle roof with black Dutch tiles, the ridge of which runs diagonally in line with the old street pattern. The front facade is constructed of machine-made brickwork with plastered plinth, speckled courses and a drip moulding. The renewed door is situated centrally under a segmental arch with voussoirs and a keystone with a diamond head. On either side are small rectangular windows with cast-iron grilles. Above the entrance is a shuttered loading door of which the two lights are finished with cast-iron grilles, the woodwork is provided with bevelled edges. On either side of this is a large standing diamond head. Above the keystone is a facade stone with the date 1901, finally a round-arched window in a round-arched niche with keystone. The rest of the spout gable is provided with a climbing frieze with profiled corbels. The spout is crowned by an obelisk.
