Inleiding.
Het negentiende-eeuwse WINKEL-WOONHUIS bestond uit twee panden die in 1887 zijn samengevoegd, hetgeen zichtbaar is in de verspringende kroonlijst. Het voormalige dubbelpand, gesitueerd op de hoek van de Markt en de Boschstraat, bezit een omlopende Neo-Renaissance winkelpui uit 1891. Deze werd in 1901 doorgetrokken naar nummer 21. Op de hoek werd in 1911 een uurwerk met jaartal 1848 opgehangen.
Omschrijving.
Het tweelaagse wit gepleisterde pand heeft een schilddak met zwarte kruispannen. De Marktzijde heeft over de gehele breedte boven een hardstenen plint met diamantkoppen een ranke houten winkelpui met drie grote etalagevensters, geheel links de paneeldeur van nummer 21, de entree tot de bovenwoning. Deze deur is voorzien van een hardstenen trapje, diamantkoppen, twee smeedijzeren sierroosters en een lijstje op klosjes. Zowel deur als vensters zijn geplaatst tussen smalle houten puipilasters. Deze zijn bewerkt met diamantkoppen, vlaamse renaissancewortels en eindigen in voluutconsoles met knoppen die de geprofileerde puilijst dragen. Daar tussen rust de lijst op bewerkte klosjes. De lijst wordt bekroond door blokken met diamantkop en sierkogels. Op de etage bevinden zich vier T-vensters met geprofileerde vensterdorpels, eenvoudige lijsten en raambefjes. Het fries wordt doorsneden door rechte muurankers. De beide kroonlijsten rusten op klosjes. Op de afgeschuinde hoek bevindt zich de paneeldeur die de ingang tot de winkel vormt. In het onderpaneel is deze voorzien van diamantkoppen. De deur heeft een gedeeld bovenlicht. Boven de deur hangt een rond uurwerk met jaartal 1848 en de naam C. Andriessen & Zn., opgehangen aan een haak van siersmeedwerk. Aan de zijde van de Bosstraat bevinden zich aansluitend twee grote etalageramen. Het gevelvlak hierboven is blind. Naast het winkelgedeelte zijn er op de begane grond en de etage twee T-vensters. Het fries met de muurankers en de gootlijst op klosjes zijn als boven beschreven.
Waardering.
Het pand en in het bijzonder de pui is van algemeen belang. Het heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van een sociaal-economische en typologische ontwikkeling. The nineteenth-century SHOP-DWELLING consisted of two properties which were joined in 1887, which is visible in the stepped cornice. The former double property, situated on the corner of the Markt and the Boschstraat, possesses a continuous Neo-Renaissance shop front from 1891. This was extended in 1901 to number 21. In 1911 a clock with the date 1848 was hung on the corner.
Description.
The two-storey whitewashed building has a hipped roof with black glazed pantiles. The Markt side has over its full width above a hardstone plinth with diamond studding a slender wooden shop front with three large display windows, at the far left the panelled door of number 21, the entrance to the flat above. This door is furnished with a hardstone step, diamond studding, two wrought-iron ornamental grilles and a small moulding on brackets. Both door and windows are placed between narrow wooden shop pilasters. These are worked with diamond studding, Flemish Renaissance mouldings and end in volute consoles with buttons which support the profiled shop moulding. Between these the moulding rests on worked brackets. The moulding is crowned by blocks with diamond studding and ornamental bosses. On the first floor are four cross windows with profiled window lintels, simple mouldings and window sills. The frieze is cut through by straight wall anchors. Both cornices rest on brackets. On the chamfered corner is the panelled door which forms the entrance to the shop. In the lower panel it is furnished with diamond studding. The door has a divided fanlight. Above the door hangs a round clock with the date 1848 and the name C. Andriessen & Zn., hung on a hook of ornamental wrought work. On the Boschstraat side are adjoining two large display windows. The wall surface above is blank. Next to the shop section are on the ground floor and the first floor two cross windows. The frieze with the wall anchors and the gutter moulding on brackets are as described above.
Valuation.
The building and in particular the shop front is of general importance. It has cultural-historical value as an example of a socio-economic and typological development. It is important for architectural history because of the careful style and ornamentation.
