Inleiding.
De WATERTOREN van 35 meter hoogte werd in 1899 gebouwd in Neo-Renaissance stijl naar ontwerp van D. de Leeuw.
Omschrijving.
De watertoren heeft een cilindrische vorm, telt drie geledingen en is opgetrokken uit machinale baksteen met verschillende kleuren siermetselwerk. Het flauw hellende tentdak is voorzien van een opengewerkt achthoekig helmtorentje. De eerste geleding is opgevat als basement en voorzien van natuursteen speklagen tussen de rondboogramen. Vleugeldeuren onder een driehoekig fronton met het jaartal 1899 geven toegang tot het interieur, waarin houten trappen naar het reservoir bovenin leiden. Naast de deur bevindt zich een deels leesbare gevelsteen: "Gedenksteen geplaatst den 11 sept. 1899 door de jongen .... Constance Hulshof oud vijf jaar". De tweede geleding bezit in een nis gekoppelde rondboogramen met siermetselwerk in de boogvelden. Hier een niet meer leesbare gedenksteen. Hier boven bevinden zich alternerend geplaatste smalle rondboogramen met kleine roeden. De derde geleding verbreedt zich door middel van een rondboogfries met siermetselwerk, waarin kleine ronde ramen, daarboven een klein segmentboogfries op natuursteen consoles. Bovenin bevindt zich het ijzeren vlakbodemreservoir. Dit gedeelte wordt geaccentueerd door segmentbogen met lisenen, sierankers en spleetvensters met natuurstenen latei. Het overkragende dak rust op houten schoren. Op het dak staat behalve de boven genoemde helmtoren met koepelbekroning en windvaan nog een dakkapel.
Waardering.
De watertoren is van algemeen belang. Het gebouw heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als voorbeeld van de ontwikkeling van de nutsvorzieningen in de periode rond 1900 en als voorbeeld van een technische en typologische ontwikkeling. The water tower has a cylindrical form, comprises three storeys and is constructed from machine-made brick with different coloured relief brickwork. The gently sloping tent roof is equipped with an open-worked octagonal lantern turret. The first storey is designed as a basement and provided with natural stone banding between the semicircular arched windows. Winged doors beneath a triangular pediment with the date 1899 provide access to the interior, where wooden stairs lead to the reservoir at the top. Beside the door is a partly legible foundation stone: "Memorial stone placed on 11 Sept. 1899 by the young .... Constance Hulshof aged five years". The second storey has coupled semicircular arched windows in a niche with relief brickwork in the arch fields. Here a foundation stone no longer legible. Above this are alternately placed narrow semicircular arched windows with small glazing bars. The third storey widens by means of a semicircular frieze with relief brickwork, in which are small circular windows, above which is a small segmental arch frieze on natural stone consoles. At the top is the iron flat-bottomed reservoir. This section is accentuated by segmental arches with pilasters, ornamental wall anchors and slit windows with natural stone lintels.
