Inleiding.
In de oksel van schip en transept aan de noordwestzijde van de kloosterkapel is rond 1900 in Traditionele Stijl een LOURDESGROT gebouwd met hekwerk, heiligenbeelden en sierbeplanting. De Schijndelse architect Ch. van Liempd heeft hieraan meegewerkt.
De Lourdesgrotten kwamen in de kerkelijke bouwkunst in zwang nadat in 1858 te Lourdes Maria aan de veertienjarige Bernadette Soubirous verscheen.
Omschrijving.
In een tuinachtige setting daalt een uit trottoirtegels en bakstenen samengesteld trapje af naar een met kiezelstenen bedekte plaats waaraan zich de Lourdesgrot bevindt. De grotendeels met klimop overwoekerde grot overspant de driehoekige ruimte tussen de eerste steunberen in de oksel van schip en transept en is aan de voorzijde afgezet met een symmetrisch, gebichromeerd smeedijzeren sierhek met puntspijlen in een aan de flamboyante stijl herinnerende vormgeving. In een nis van de grot een gepolychromeerd beeld van een staande, biddende Maria met rozenkrans, gestoken in een lang geplooid gewaad met lange sluier. Voor het hek op een steen een klein gepolychromeerd beeldje van een knielende en aanbiddende Bernadette.
Waardering.
De Lourdesgrot met hekwerk, heiligenbeelden en siertuin is van algemeen belang. Het object heeft cultuurhistorische waarde als bijzondere uitdrukking van de ontwikkeling van het rooms-katholicisme en de Maria-devoties van de Congregatie van de zusters van Liefde. Verder heeft het object waarde als representatieve uitdrukking van het type. Het heeft kunsthistorische waarde vanwege de esthetische kwaliteiten van met name het sierhekwerk.
Het object heeft ensemblewaarden als onderdeel van een historisch gegroeid religieus ensemble, verder bestaande uit de kloosterkapel en het gehele aansluitende kloostercomplex met tuinen, dat als centraal moederklooster van de over het land verspreide Congregatie van Zusters van Liefde van belang is.

Introduction.
In the angle between nave and transept on the northwestern side of the convent chapel a LOURDES GROTTO was built around 1900 in Traditional Style with railwork, holy images and ornamental planting. The Schijndel architect Ch. van Liempd contributed to this.

Description.
In a garden-like setting a small flight of steps composed of floor tiles and bricks descends to a place covered with pebbles at which the Lourdes grotto is situated. The grotto, largely overgrown with ivy, spans the triangular space between the first buttresses in the angle of nave and transept and is closed off at the front by a symmetrical, bichrome wrought-iron ornamental railing with pointed spears in a design reminiscent of the Flamboyant style. In a niche of the grotto a polychromed image of a standing, praying Maria with rosary, dressed in a long pleated garment with long veil. In front of the railing on a stone a small polychromed statue of a kneeling and adoring Bernadette.
Valuation.
The Lourdes grotto with railwork, holy images and ornamental garden is of general importance. The object has cultural-historical value as a distinctive expression of the development of Roman Catholicism and the Marian devotions of the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity. Furthermore the object has value as a representative expression of the type. It has artistic-historical value by virtue of the aesthetic qualities of in particular the ornamental railwork.
The object has ensemble values as part of a historically grown religious ensemble, further comprising the convent chapel and the entire adjoining convent complex with gardens, which is of importance as the central mother convent of the Congregation of Sisters of Charity dispersed throughout the country.
