Inleiding.
VILLA "Agatha" met HEKWERK en SCHANSMUUR gebouwd rond 1895 in Eclectische stijl naar ontwerp van architect Cornelis van Hoof. Piet van Besouw richt in 1917 de firma P. van Besouw en Zonen op. Villa Agatha is particulier bezit maar wordt in 1920 bij de oprichting van de NV Hollandsche Textielindustrie door Piet van Besouw als onderpand ingebracht. Het huis is genoemd naar zijn vrouw Agatha Pluijm. Het huis is rechts tegen het huis van zijn vader G. Besouw gebouwd. De rechterzijgevel ligt in de Schoolstraat.
Omschrijving.
Het huis heeft gedeeltelijk een, twee en drie bouwlagen. Het heeft een gecombineerde dakvorm van mansarden en zadeldaken. Het is gedekt door natuursteen leien, pannen en mastiek. De voorgevel heeft in het midden een dubbele voordeur met hardstenen bordes met drie treden. In de voordeur smeedijzeren roosters. Het linkerdeel van de voorgevel risaleert. Op de begane grond twee gekoppelde raamtraveeën gescheiden door een smalle penant. Hierboven bevindt zich een gemetselde dakkapel met klauwstukken en trapbekroning voorzien van een overdwars geplaatste makelaar met stenen pinakel. Ook is een driezijdige houten hangerker aangebracht rustend op drie voluutvormige consoles met acanthusbladmotief. De risaliet heeft naast de voordeur een venster. Het rechterdeel van de voorgevel heeft op de begane grond een venster. In het dak zijn twee kleine gesneden houten kapellen met wangen aanwezig. Ze zijn bekroond door een segmentvormig fronton met piron. Op de hoek van het huis bevat de onderpui een vijfzijdige erker, die op de verdieping een achtzijdige torenkamer vormt. De kamer heeft een torendak met pironbekroning. Zowel de erker als het torentje hebben drie smalle vensters, die diagonaal ten opzichte van elkaar gelegen zijn. Daarnaast heeft de torenkamer nog 2 andere vensters. Op de muur van de torenkamer bevindt zich op stenen cartouches de naam van de villa. De rechterzijgevel bevat op de begane grond naast het venster van de voorkamer een vijfzijdige erker in de achterkamer. Hierboven bevindt zich een gemetselde topgevel met een trapbekroning voorzien van een overdwars geplaatste makelaar met stenen pinakel. Voor de zijgevel is een balkon met een houten balustrade met smeedijzeren balusters bevestigd. De achtergevel is gedeeltelijk drielaags, deze bevat een houten serre, die oorspronkelijk een veranda was. Het opgaand werk bestaat uit rode handgevormde baksteen gemetseld in kruisverband, afgewisseld door speklagen van gele baksteen. In het basement en rond de getoogde muuropeningen randen van profielstenen. Siermetselwerk in boogtrommels boven de vensters en onder de dakrand van rode, grijze en gele baksteen. De vensters hebben houten rolluiken. Onder de vensters bevinden zich terugliggende borstweringen met hardstenen lekdorpels. Voor en opzij van het huis een smeedijzeren hekwerk met bij de voordeur twee draaihekken tussen gietijzeren balusters op een hardstenen basement. Aan de kant van de Schoolstraat een schansmuur met steunberen en ezelsrug en poortje onder segmentboog.

Het huis is van cultuurhistorisch belang als bijzondere uitdrukking van de sociaaleconomische ontwikkeling van de textielindustrie rond Tilburg. Het object is van belang wegens de architectonische gaafheid van het exterieur en interieur en is van belang als toonbeeld van de Eclectische ontwerppraktijk van de in Tilburg en omgeving bekende architect Van Hoof. At the corner of the house the ground floor contains a five-sided bay window, which on the upper floor forms an eight-sided tower room. The room has a tower roof with cresting. Both the bay window and the small tower have three narrow windows, which are positioned diagonally to each other. Besides this the tower room has 2 other windows. On the wall of the tower room on stone cartouches is the name of the villa. The right side gable contains on the ground floor next to the window of the front room a five-sided bay window in the rear room. Above this is a brick stepped gable furnished with a transversely placed tying-beam with stone pinnacle. A balcony with a wooden balustrade with wrought-iron balusters is affixed in front of the side gable. The rear facade is partly three-storey, this contains a wooden conservatory, which was originally a veranda. The superstructure consists of red hand-formed brick laid in English bond, alternated by courses of yellow brick. In the basement and around the arched wall openings borders of moulded stone.
